Its been a long wait but I can finally setup a project gallery post with my results. Used a 17" LCD with the standard lumenlab triplet and larger fresnels sourced elsewhere. Results are really impressive with just a slight blur and fade in the corners.

Kitch,
Yes absolutely spend the $20 and sign up. I can not even begin to describe the knowledge and information that is available.
Reading the plogs and seeing other PJ's being built is EXTREMELY helpful, but so are all the other forums.
I haven't started my build yet but it's the best $20 I've ever spent. My wife always asks me "so what did you learn on Lumenlabs today?". She is looking forward to my building a PJ and having a "home theatre".

Damn your lucky that your wife is all over the theatre thing, I had a hell of a time getting my wife to bite. She was very sceptical about the project, and did not believe it would work at all, let alone well. Once I finally got all my parts and fired it up I burned off to the bedroom and woke her up and dragged her out so she could eat her words though hehe.
Now she is very happy with it though, but then again I have had the same battle every time I go to upgrade anything to do with the tv/stereo end of things, she never believes it will be that much better until she hears or sees the difference.
And yes the guide is well worth the money, not for the guide per say but for the forums and irc #customer channel, as their is tons of insight and help from other members. And its a really decent and friendly community of people for the most part. I have met several people I enjoy chatting with and learning things from. As their is a fairly large chunk of very intelligent people here, with alot of insight in the diy projector end of things along with other aspects as well.

Foe,
What model LG is that? Checking your posts I see you described it as LG something or the other, or words to that effect. Can you be more specific, please?

I am glad I read this. I have been thinking about going with the 17" but was worried about buying the standard lens with it.
Seeing your success gives me the push I needed for this decision
I'll just get the pro lens later and swap them out. Will I need to do much modification if I do this with the overall placement of everything else in relation to the lens when I do swap them?
Great results

Gee what model. Cant remember its in the strippable monitor list under 17" from what I remember. The specs were 650:1, 12ms 1280x1024.
Great monitor for stripping, really easy.
questarthews - Yeah go the 17" for sure. As for using the setup for the pro lens it all depends on what its specs are when finished. Worst case scenario is that you'll have to buy a new field fresnel/triplet and extend your box at the front to accomadate the longer focal length. Theres no reason you'll have to change the rear optics/light as it just gathers the light
Might I suggest you sell this one to a friend when pro is released and make another one. Your second attempt will be alot better then your first, at least mine was. Plus you never know you might want the bigger resolution of a 21" monitor
