Before I start ordering everything, I just want to confirm that the standard triplet would be able to fully use a 17" panel. I've seen a lot of conflicting reports on various forums. I don't really need a long throw, so if it works without any triplet modifications I would be happy.

Also, what are the differences between the triplet sold here, and the one at the diy pj co. The focal lengths given are 327mm and 320mm, would there be a difference for using 17"?

Triplet good, fresnels bad.

I don't see a problem with the triplet being large enough, but the standard fresnels are not quite wide enough to cover the 17" LCD. This will mean that you'll get a slight "overscan" problem, much like a standard television set. If you can get an appropriate set of fresnles (220/320mm focal length) which will cover the LCD, it'll work out. Throw will be very short, though.
