My PJ will have a DVI ready monitor. Can we use the new satelite receivers from Dish Network with DVI output to feed PJ directly with TV signal?
lesko
Yes you can, that is prob. one of the best way to connect to hd.
But I don't know if that make 's it HDTV compatible??? maybe somebody and jump in here to answer this further...?

In order to be "HDTV compatible" you are going to need a screen with a resolution higher than 1024x768, ie you will need a 17" LCD.

Thanks guys. Don't really care about the HD just want an easy way to send a signal to PJ and change channels without having to go thru all the HTPC business.

Hey MMc,
One question...
How do they make the pro style projectors HDTV when they have a 1024*768? Do they have a special converter in them or something? Or does it scale the image up?

Thanks,
Lesko

Chances are you cannot use the DVI ouit of the Dish Network box to your LCD screen.

Dish Network uses HDCP on their DVI Connection, it basically encrypts the signal, and your LCD screen is not capable of decrypting an HDCP Signal (no desk-LCD paels are).

Look into the receiver and find out if it has HDCP, if it does your out of luck.

lesko,

1024x768 is lower than the resolution of HDTV, so people would probably use a re-scaler like an N6 or a computer. We don't have HDTV over here so I'm not all that sure about it.

Just found this so I thought I would add my 2 cents.I hooked my projector up to my HD Dish reciever and could only get 480p.The first thing is I got my dish HD reciever my mistake so I don't have a subscription for HDTV but I can use it for off air channels. The picture was so big though that some of the channels looked washed out.If I could find a way to shrink the picture it would look awesome.I had it hooked up directly to the monitor so I had no way to control the size.

you can still do what you are doing...you'll just need a N5 v2 or N6 ans just run everything through that to the panel...
