I have three, full size, move theater screen backdrops that came out of a local movie theater. One is brand new still in the tube. These things are HUGE!

I figured people here would put them to use, currently there just collecting dust. They are located in Southern New England. If anyone is interested in them please send me an e-mail: NLekatsas AT cox.net

I have asbolutely no idea what they are worth. First come first serve. I am NOT shipping them!

edit: sorry about my lack of posts, i got wrapped up in the idea of a projector but then it kinda fizzled.

If I bought all the parts to build a projector I'd love to trade two of the screens to someone that would put the projector together for me and keep one screen for myself smile.gif

id be willing to pay shipping if you would cut it down a little bit and send it to me! im in the US, though.

i wonder how good these things look...anyone know? or is a DIY good enough to resemble one of these?

Im not certain one of these would be ideal for DIY .... because since they are so large, and since the audience sits so far back the screen is usually quite porous with large holes that lets sound go through ....

Scubasteve is 100% correct. It took a full day's worth of driving to figure this out. I tried these screens out with the help of GadgetSmith, the color reproduction, in particular the blacks, was extremely good. Despite this, I would advise a minimum viewing distance of about 12 feet if you want to use these screens, maybe more.

I also managed to get my hands on two more through my source, he had them in another location. So in total I have 5 up for grabs. No clue what they are really worth though.

If your interested and in the New England area send me an e-mail. I really don't want to package these things.

Can you take a closeup picture of the screen showing the pours, with maybe a mm ruler on it?

Thanks, joe

The screens are from Hurley Screen Corporation. (what vintage i'm not sure) As Czar has said the blacks looks very good on the screen, but the whites suffered. I think it is similar to using a gray screen. I believe the white screen with the holes (they appear black with the shadow they cast) is much like a halftone screen used for printing, that is why the screen behaves like it's gray even though it's white with holes. The holes were very prominent when projecting whites at a distance of about 13ft (Czar I actually measured the viewing position on the couch at 15ft). At 15ft the holes were less noticeable and at about 20ft I would say they were completely "gone".

The screen itself was in good condition, a few marks on them, but would clean up quite easily. They come with grommets required for tensioning, and the material is very durable.

Thanks again Czar for coming up and giving the screen a try with a LL PJ... hopefully you didn't hit too much traffic on the way home.

cheers,
gs
