I'm now working on 15.4inch Projector, using LEGO as LCD and Fresnel Holder... you will surprise with the result......

Absolutely AWESOME!

And for my 2 cents, I like the classic pearl paper on BO cloth. The LCD paper/material/stuff is bright but a bit harsh and washed out IMO.

Very nice work!!!

Lego. Why the hell has nobody thought of that before? With Lego we could create totally modular projectors that come apart really easily for cleaning etc.

Absolutely brilliant.

Hmm, I wonder if I could use some Mecanno or something for the focus mechanism... biggrin.gif

Maybe LEDs will work afterall?!?
"Paper removed from LCD" I assume this is some soft of frosted Mylar defuser sheet seems to work the best (brightest).

Is it possible to use LEGO as the enclosure or would the lamp just melt it???

I also found the velum paper from the lcd to work out really nice also.
It took me about a month to find this stuff in large sheets...so I found it at Thomas Repro Graphics, it's a print house that does alot of blue prints for houses and stuff...The largest they had was 56" by how ever long you wanted...For $60 I picked up a 56*64 piece of drafting velum...I then painted the back side with alum. paint (2 coates) wrapped it on a frame with a 1*2 black trim...I also tried to use mylar and a mirror behind it but I could not get it to lie flat, but the image was amazing...(I still think it do-able)
So I did the next best thing and use alum. paint...still the image is really nice and rich, the whites are not gray and the colors are deeper than blackout cloth...and I'm still able to turn up the contrast and brightness with out lossing any color...

good luck,
Jeff

I APPLY MORE THAN 5 COAT USING THIS PAINT... IF THIS THING WILL MELT MAYBE YOUR LCD IS ALREADY TOASTED... I WILL TEST IT UNTIL MY LEGO MELT.

I'm speechless. I can honestly say that is one of the best uses of lateral thinking that I've seen, if it works.

Did you Glue the Lego's? I would hate for it to fall apart.

Joe
JAZZKOOL_2005
YES, I used super glue with Heat Resistant , after I finalized my design , I duplicate the setup with super glue. I will be a lot of fun, like solving a pussle to get the perfect setupt on the block.....

P.S. Be sure there is no kids around you... i'm sure they will help you, mean there will be a distraction...
JAZZKOOL_2005
If you like my LCD Holder, I'm sure you will surprised with my LAMP Holder it will reduced a lot of Heat... picture coming soon..

Your a madman! Its a good thing.

I will be surprised it doesn't melt with a MH Lamp.

Hope I'm wrong, because lego is expensive nowadays

Joe,
take some image shots and have some up in a couple of days...
sorry, that's as soon as I can do it...

Excuse me, I must've drank stupid juice for breakfast this morning wacko.gif but you say that the sheet of film that comes off the back of the lcd makes a great screen? Most excellent!

I think that that sample of LCD sheeting shows up as bright because it is semi-reflective. I bet it would hotspot badly on a larger sample, though. Do you have any off-axis photos to see if there is a viewing cone?
MMc
If you can get Lego near a 400W heater (your bulb) and not melt it, I will be very impressed.
lesko
Even though I used drafting velum, (almost the same as lcd film) I also found large sheets of the lcd film here...

The image looks better on the silver screen than it does on the lcd sheet. What do you think? whats better? since you have seen both up close. I may have to go buy a gallon of silver screen this week and check it out for myself.

Is that Behr Silverscreen paint, or a silver impregnated commercial screen?
