Hi everyone,

Im based in the UK, and am in the process of getting interest from the community for the production of a kit containing LCD, Controller and IR - remote. This kit will be capable of displaying 1080P resolutions.

The LCD panel would of high specification, displaying 1920* 1200 pixels. LCD type is Sharp LQ154M1LW02 LCD

The Controller would have DVI, VGA, Composite RGB, SVideo and D-Sub inputs, and an Infra red remote control.

Would anyone out there be interested in a kit to do this available in Europe?

Due to the European Open market, I can offer this kit with tax calculated at the rates applicable in your own countrys, so you wont have to incure a huge tax bill for export from the UK!!!

If you are interested then let me know as Im in the process of ordering the parts for a prototype, and getting someone to design and set up a web page with the information.

Many thanks

Rob

Just an update for you on this site.

The European WUXGA kit has arrived at my home.

I can confirm it is identical to minoten's WUXGA kit for America and Canada.

I'll take some photoes this week, and put them up on a web site for you.

The 1080P projector Im building should be finished in a few weeks.

Manufacturer: Sharp
- Model: LQ154M1LW02
- Response Time: 25ms
- Contrast Ratio: 400:1
- Color: 256k (16.2mil w/ dithering)
- Screen Size Ratio: 16:10
- Resolution: 1920x1200
- Dimensions: Here

Could you confirm these specs please.

400:1 is good. 25ms seems very mediocre, but what scares me most is the colour depth. 256k? Not very nice.

Anyway, how much would you reckon screen + card will cost?

Cheers.

These are quite typical specs for most available LCDs, although manufacturers cheat and claim their panels have true color (I doubt such an LCD even exists), most have 18 bit colour space, 6 bits for each colour component. And response times like "4ms" or something like that, advertised for desktop monitors - it's ridiculous. 25ms is quite decent, if it's a true value (as this manufacturer may albo be cheating).

256 is not 18bit. 262k is.
I am very aware of the response time cheating by manufacturers, however I would not pay big bucks for a 25ms panel - even if they are telling the truth..

Do you have any idea how they would achieve 256000 colours anyway? It's a 256 "binary kilos", 256*1024=262144, that is 18 bits.

And, if you are not willing to pay "big $" for a 25ms panel, you won't buy any panel, as most are within this range. There are no "4ms" (or something like that) LCD panels. Instead are you willing to pay "big $$$" for a falsely advertised panel, with an unknown response time? Think, that a real 25ms response would allow you to display 40 frames per second.

pepito:

I actually thought about the 256k setting and you are absolutely correct on that matter.
However, most of these '4ms' panels are actually around ~16ms (measured) and this is still better than 25 even though the'yre lying SOBs..
Even if Sharp is lying less than others, I would still bet that even their panel is not 25...

So anyway.. what did that panel cost USD?
