Full Version: Stuck pixel on LCD monitor

Much to my dismay when I ordered my CMV 520D it arrived with a stuck pixel near the corner! It's bright green and highly visible except when watching a movie or playing a game (thankfully.) As it is commonly known there are dead pixel policies that keep me from exchanging this display for 1 dead/stuck pixel. There are apparently alternatives:

1. Rub the pixel (Tried that, no dice.) If you try this, rub very gently! Obviously you don't want to crack the glass or possibly kill/stick other neighboring pixels.

2. Power cycle the monitor. Apparently some manufacturers recommend this. Didn't work for me.

3. Wait. I just got this display a couple days ago so it may go away with time.

4. PSP pixel unsticker. Apparently someone created this little movie for the PSP which color cycles the entire screen continuously. The recommendation is to run it for 8 hours to revive the stuck pixel. It will not revive dead (black) pixels. Problem is, I can't play it on my PC. I tried the DiVX codec, doesn't seem to work. Does someone know an equivalent program for the PC or know how to convert this movie to a format that is PC compatible? The movie is available for download at:

Seesoe, that's to test for dead pixels. I'm pretty sure he or she already knows they have a dead pixel. Sh0x, you can just say it has like 8 pixels and they'll take it back. The stores don't test it for dead pixels.

I guess my thinking was that if I could unstick the pixel I'd be done with it, rather than pack the whole thing up, ship it back, get a replacement, and hope it doesn't have another stuck or dead pixel. This is the first flat panel I've ever bought. Are stuck pixels that common? I understand what they are, it's not a dead pixel it's a stuck pixel. Dead pixels apparently don't often come back to life.

If it's a stuck you can try rubbing it. When I had a stuck pixel it didn't do anything, but made my thumb sore, hehe.

I remember reading on a manufacturer's website (I think it was viewsonic?) that broken pixels only happen during manufacture, and rarely break/come back to life after that.

I got a new CMV 520D with a stuck pixel too (it sits there in bright BLUE on a black screen), luckily it came with a 0px guarantee, but still waiting for a replacement...

A couple of updates...

1. Mikau pointed out in another thread that Best Buy also gives a DVD to its customers with dead pixels that does the same thing as the PSP "stuck pixel unsticker" I mentioned earlier. Thanks, Mikau! In fact, as it turns out the guy who made the PSP unsticker made it from the same DVD Best Buy has.

2. If you don't want to hassle with going to Best Buy, I figured out how to play the PSP files on the PC. It uses the new h.264 codec, so I found only one of two solutions:
A. Get the h.264 codec and a compatible media player. I used the k-lite mega codec pack 1.33 (newest version) located at http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite..._Codec_Pack.htm
B. Use QuickTime 7, which now has support for h.264. Apparently this will work but I didn't test it because plan A worked.

I have not yet tried this solution on my monitor but most people who have used either solution have reported a decent success rate, but a few have been disappointed.

Is there a tool which can go through every pixel and determine if its dead or not ?? I thought I saw a link for some software which can be used but requires you to scan every single dot yourself.. it just changes background color and makes it easier..
