WORKS AMAZING!! The price on Circuit City.com changes, on mondays I have noticed it is cheapest, I paid 403 and change. The model number is a HTS-770.

This is a 6.1 setup, it has 1000 watts, AMAZING SOUND and BASS. For the money you cant go wrong, you cant get better for double the money. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a nice setup and doesnt have much money.

It has 3 optical, 1 coax for sound input. It has 2 component inputs with one output, a buttload of other inputs like s video and regular video. The receiver works great, the speaker wire you get kinda sucks, but it will get you by if your on a budget. The sub is loud, I have it only halfway up.

i was going to go for one of those and had a friend that worked there and could have got it for less than 200. but went for the logitech Z-5500's for beter compatibility all around. computer + built in dolbly 5.1 and dts decoding. just my two cents.

Just so you know, there is some debate as to how good these speakers really are. My suggestion is to visit AVSForum for some insight into what to buy.
Wizardman
which speakers are you refering to?

I would have to say he's refering to the logitech Z-5500's. I have these speakers and also the onkyo HTS-770. I would have to say for the $600 I paid, a yr ago. (I have the Home theater model comes with the 5 disc cd changer as well). Anyway it just rocks beats the hell out of the logitechs. I'm not a audiophile by anymeans, but you won't be let down.

Actually he's refering to the Onkyo's.
Here is the thread mentioned:Onkyo speakers have no clarity
There are many more like this one.

sorry about that, I should have mentioned which ones I was talking about. Yes, the 770's have come under fire lately at AVSForum. I think the main reason is that Onkyo advertises that they are 1000watts, but with 10% THD (which in many peoples view is unacceptable). People at AVSforum state that its better to get a HTiB with lower watts and lower THD.

Not sure if its a safe thing to do, but at best buy they often have returned items that have been opened and or used. The prices are greatly reduced. I'm not sure if there's any garentee or return policy for them though.

If you keep an eye open you can find some great items very cheap. I saw a 6.1 600 watt reciever for only 120 bucks! Would have bought it if I wasn't broke at the time.

Hmmm...I may be completely wrong then. I'll have to check it out in person at CC. Thanks for the clarification!

Thanks foamcows! After having read your post and many others on AVSforum I went to CC and Bestbuy to listen. I ended up purchasing the 770 setup. I really enjoy this for the price. There were other setups I liked better (yes, including the Bose), put I wasn't in the position to drop $1-2k on a 2nd home theater system. Really I didn't want to drop more than $350, but my wife let me go the $420 I paid. (happy "early" fathers day smile.gif )

This system works great for me in my basement theater. (13' W x 22' L x 7.5' H) Creates a nice soundstage in the sitting area which is located about 15' from the screen.

Thanks again for your comment Fcows.

My 2 cents: AVSforum is a great site with great information, but at times you must take the reviews (at times people's rants) with a grain of salt. IMHO, having a discussion over what sounds good or bad about a speaker is like trying to discuss what's the best tasting ice cream. The forums will get you to a certain point during a research process, but in the end it's up to the individual to listen to a setup, and at their price point (something commonly ignored on the site at times), to determine the "best" sound for them. Another thing to consider is your preference to listening volume (wattage). I think very few people will have to worry about ratings of speakers at maximum volume, especially on 1000W systems. (I question the 1000W rating on the 770 system as a marketing gimik anyway seeing as it's plastered all over the outside of the box in BIG RED LETTERS... huh.gif ) I found that most of the movie/TV/games will be bewteen 45-55% on the volume control. Max of about 60%, but of coures that is just for me, to each his own.

(hope this wasn't a rant, didn't mean for it to be) smile.gif

cheers,
gs

Glad you are happy. The reason I decided to make the jump is all of the great feedback about the system on Circuit City.com, 170 responses and only a handfull of bad ones.

I admit I am not a sound guru, but this one sounds great to me, I can't wait till I get a house so my downstairs neighbors wont be able to complain about the bass.
Wizardman
just a random question but who makes the drivers for logitech speakers?

Meh they have great clarity, especially considering the price. People who complain about them are audiophiles who think the only speakers with good clarity cost $10,000+.

Though I must say if you want truly amazing clarity and bass then get the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultra's, they are AWESOME speakers, best in their price range for sure. Heck I have even heard $2500 speakers that can't touch the Klipsch's.

Oh and never buy from Bose, total garbage.
