I recently moved my projector into my unfinished basement, which meant I needed a new way to get surround sound. I didn't want to buy a whole new receiver, speakers, etc. and I didn't have the budget for that either. After a fair bit of research, I settled on using the Xbox 5.1 Surround Sound system, which consists of 5 satellites, a powered subwoofer/amp and a control module to decode the surround signal.

In a word, the sound is AWESOME...and it only cost $400

I am truly amazed at the sound quality from what is essentially a set of powered PC speakers. It honestly rivals my Onkyo mid-range reciever and Bose speakers that I have upstairs. This would work great for you guys running your PJ's off of laptops. Just add a surround sound card and away you go.

No surprise there considering Bose is the single most over-rated brand of speakers that exist. And considering that they are an abomination to the speaker industry. (no offense really, it's just true, any audiophile will tell you that Bose is sickeningly bad)
