The box looks very professional. I think the black stand really compliments the wood also.
What did you do to cut down on the length of the box? Did you use 3 fresnels or something strange like that?

!!!!! your projector had a baby!

That's an excellent size comparison picture, will have to show it to my friend, try and get him more interested in building one with the 8" Hami. he's been using a 19" tv for too long that probably needs carbon dating.

the box size is 25"L 7 1/2"H 10"w

cptpower,
I used 2 standard LL fresnels unsplit behind the lcd to get the most light out of the box
no keystone setup I will be doing keystone with computer and nvidia software

Look really good yup

I tested it and the only way to have some quality output from the Hami is really the VGA... all the other method don,t worth it.
I have an Hami too, I started yesterday to open the LCD... hope i will not skrew anything.. Still don`t know which light system i will use..
Which lens and bulb did you used pjgibbs??

I used the standard LL lens 220mm/317mm fresnels and the LL small varifocal pj lens they were avalable in the store but Im not sure if they are in stock you can also use the standard triplet. you will also need the 20 pin extention that brain sells.
Im using the ushio 400watt from the LL store.
The Hami strips pretty good,Its a delicate process not to bad though.
I used the Hami case to hold the lcd it snaps right in there and holds it good.

What was the maximum resolution that you were able to get with your hami 800x600. I'm interested in using it with my comp but its mainly for movies and games. And what was the length that you got from Brain for your 20 pin extension?

The maximum is really 800x600 60-70Hz. Even if you can send vga signal up to 1024x768, the Hami rescale it down to 800x600, and it's unusable. text is unreadable and the quality is not good at all.
The 20 pin cable is a 6 inches long. A bit short to be confortable, but it work. You can also order the other cable, i think it's a 40 pin one but i'm not sure... This one is not necessary. I made a try on a 3M OHP (10 000 lumens output) and it's too dark. I still don't know what i will use as light source.
IMO, this little LCD have a very good quality. It was just a quick test, but the screen door is not apparent. Atleast at 9 foot from screen.

how is this brighter then your 15" ? I would think a 8inch with decent reflector would be pretty bright. Maybe you are wasting alot of light that isnt hitting your rear fresnel.

In most of the 7" & 8" pj's I've looked at a pre-condenser lens is used to gather more of the light and narrow the cone of light since it's a smaller panel. FWIW

You know, if that used a Haas Style formfactor then it would be just about the same size as a commercial unit.
The performance would be similar to low end commercial units, so it might be a little more attractive to those who consider size as a factor.

I just recieved an elliptical cold reflector from Edmunds today! I should be getting a ballast for the cdm150 lamp that I have, the only other thing Im waiting on is a g12 base for the lamp then I will start testing it out. I would love to be able to down size on the 400w lamp.I will also try to find a light meter and do some before and after tests.
I have some shots of the first reflector I bought and the Edmunds reflector to campare the size difference.
The edmunds reflector is the one on the right

Thanks SIMUL8R,
I realy like the colors now more crisp red is red contrast is better in my opinion.
I would do it again I want to see how it does with a smaller arc lamp and an elliptical reflector
that is my next journey...
thank your Lady for the compliment!...

The Guide is free it is just a general guide line anyway, however the build techniques or discusion of the builds are for the customers. I would think not one person here has said they did not think 20.00 was to much for them to pay for the access and guidence of the forums its self.

Great work!! Your projector is exactly how I want mine to turn out. I just started buying some of the pieces and am trying to decide between the 8" hami and the 8.4" lilliput. I also very interested in the tests you are doing with the other bulb and reflector. Please keep us up to date. Possibly post more pics and maybe a parts list.

Dag.
I love this projector.
Fantastic!
Is the HAMI a "poly silicon" LCD? Just curious, because I recently removed the AG from a poly-silicone 8.9" Toshiba LCD, and I cant belive just how transparent the panel is now! Im hoping to see results like yours.
Did you ever star a plog?
Happy new year!!!

thanks pjgibbs, for the link for the ballast, im also going the same route as you with the hami, cdm-sa, and the elliptical reflector. I think the results will be excellent. Right now im doing some calculations to find the correct negitive lens to put between the reflector and first fresnels.
I have two more question if you dont mind- where to you buy the cdm-sa lamp and what method did you use to remove the anti-glare from the LCD panel?
