Like I said in the trading post, I'm making a cnc router to help me out. The Haas mill only has 24" travel in the 'x' axis, so to do a side cover on it I had to do it half at a time. The last 6 boxes were made from templates that I made on the mill.
This router was made from parts we took off a robotic part loader. It will have about 31" x 15" x 4" work cube. I'm replacing the lead screws with Acme rod which aren't installed in the picture.
It's about 80% done and still need the motors and all the electronics installed. The table or verticals are not attached. but not too bad for day 1.5 ! About 18 hrs
Unlike Joe's , this has a traveling table. It takes more floor space than his, but this is the only way I could use the parts I had.

Very Nice, This will allow the travel you need, I like the way you adapted the existing parts.

Watching the stuff you guys do with your CNC machines makes me TOTALLY want one... Despite the fact that I really don't have the space, OR a need for it at this point.

Someday, maybe.

Yes we could design one to be used with a 17" screen.. I can see what i can come up with in solid works, and send it to Haas_man to look over.

And for 15.4" widescreen?
joecnc2006

Ok what we need are the actual diminsions of the LCD, and also LCD in original alumn frame., this will determain the abtual box sizes.

May 23 2005, 05:08 AM
That would be great. I haven't actually got the lcd yet, but I am looking at getting the hyundai l72s just in case anyone already knows the dimensions of this screen. Will I be able to use the pro lens with the box when it comes out? I know I won't be able to use the focusing attachment since it is too small. I have a design I want to do for that already.

Hey Pete .....
You say you wanted some more feedback on your boxes, well I have a couple more ideas .... not being critical cause im a very very happy customer, just some things I think will make it better .....
Ill repeat the first one again, I think this is very important ...... try to get the threaded inserts into the front/back panels cause the screws are stripping out the wood after a few removals ....
Next idea ....
on the lens carrier, it drops in nice and all, but the removal for lens cleaning could be a little bit simplier, especially since MOST LCDs recquire some FFC cables/inserts that need to be removed .....
Since the carrier snaps together from the sides, and the dowel rods come together on the sides, how about making it so that the top dowell can slide out from the top .... that way when we need to clean our lenses/lexan we can simply throw on some rubber gloves and the slide the lenses out by themselves from the top and leave the carrier inside the PJ with the LCD remaining in place ......
That would make it much easier to do some cleaning, and make our LCDs last longer .... I realize all of this, cause Im almost done finishing my projector and I found a peice of dirt on my lens that I needed to clean off .....

Good ideas scuba! I'm not that far along so things can change. Been making som progress. Only could get enough wood for 8 so far. I'll have to shop around some more. Trying to get the process down. It different than the other machine or using patterns. The direction of cut makes a big diff in the finish.
I hope everyone understands that these are like any other unfinished wood product. Their are variations in grain and finish. They will need to be sanded and filled.

which fans will this case support... hopefully a option between a 120mm or two evercools like sold in the store.

I haven't made a decision on what to do about the fans. The PAC fans are a pita because of the square corners. If peeps would be willing to fit them themselves, I could do that, say with 1/8" radius in the corners. Their is no room for a void in the case because the fan has a flat top and bottom, no covering flange. I got another 4 sides done tonight.

The 1/8" radius in the corners worked fine for my 120mm fan pocket on my box.

I'd be happy to change my plans to use a conventional fan (or two). I trust your opinion on this one, so make my box fitted for the good ole square type.

And THANKS for the update on your progress!

Yeah, I have PAC fans, too, but if the conventional fans work better, I'd rather use them from the start and have a box that's designed to fit them. I have plenty of PCs I can stick the other fans into. hehe

I sure everyone is wondering whats goin on. I'm trying to complete the focus assys. But this is a different set of parts and won't fit the fixtures I made up to do the last ones , so its giving me a hard time. I spent most of last week on them ( after hours).
I know I have mentioned this to a few that asked, but I have been helping out a friends family buisness. His son lost his leg in a cycle accident and has been in the hospital for 6 weeks. Thats where my PJ time has gone for the last month. I'm doing what I can , but can't seem to get anywhere fast.

Sorry guys, been gone on a tangent for a while. But back on task now!
I gave up on the last set of lens holders I had in progress. Kinda sucks, because I have like 25 started but the parts wouldn't run true in the fixtures . So I'll find something to do with them later... So here is a pic of what I have now. It's a little more work, but its worth it.....read" will cost a little more"..$20
It has a 4 lead ball type screw inside. It will advance 2" in a 1.5 turns. I have made a prototype with larger balls and am so impressed. Anyone intrested in the models, I modeled this in Alibre ( full ) , but would send it to someone to try it out in the free (x-cad) version. Not sure if it would work.
It is assembled by inserting the inner tube and placing the balls in the holes, then sliding the blue tube inside to retain the balls. The helical cuts are blind, so after installing the blue ring, the balls stay put and the inner tube will not come out of the outer tube.

is it still for the standard 5" hole, like to see if it works in x-cad version can you email? and i can measure it.

Nah don't loose hope, ususally if a main person from the site is busy for a while its usually for a reason and they will be back, HaasMan is a good member and if he says he will do it it will be done. He has just had some problems as such as some of us.

I would also like to find out about ordering a box (depending on price)
I am in the process of writing an article for HTPCNews.com about the LumenLab projector and am really looking forward to seeing mine built. I need to have a curved style due to where I am mounting my box (little headroom and a box design at a slight angle would give no headroom

Hello Haas,
I am interested in one your 15" boxes as well as a lens system, if they're still available. I have received most of my parts, so I'm ready to purchase immediately. I'm not sure what information you need about my parts or how much your asking. You have a few threads, so maybe I missed it.... would you mind posting it or providing me with a link?
I will follow with a PM with all my information.
Great design; thanks for the offer.
