what reccomendations do you have for building a projector to accept the x-box input, as well as dvd inputs?
there are three RCA jacks from the X-box. two for sound and one for video.
thanks

Please read FAQ #8:

Basically, those are composite outputs from your XBox. You would need an external converter to convert the composite outputs to VGA inputs for your LCD. There are several different options rainging from about $60 to about $200, check here for a discussion on these converters:

The samsung LTM1555 and LTN1565 have component inputs.
The nextivison N6 converter has component inputs as well, allowing you to use component output equipped sources with any monitor in the compatible monitors list.

Get the N5 or better N6 scan converter and get a Benq monitor and you're golden.

I have bought myself a new x-box video cable in anticipation of the projector.
The new cable has the standard RCA output as well as S-VID.!!!! Hopefully this will improve the quality a bit. (only cost about US$10).
I bought it from a local supplier here in Australia but I'm sure they are everywhere.
Plug it into the N6 and your away.

Is component better than s video? I have s video already for all of my video game systems, but if component is better I might consider switching.

Oh yeah! Component is a must if you have the inputs for it. HUGE difference.

The reason I like keeping the scan converter separate is because when panels hit 800:1 in a couple of years you can just stick a new panel in and not lose your inputs.

Brain,
as technology goes, new and better every 18 months in the computer world, wouldn't the N6 be "outdated" as well? maybe prohibit the quality that 800:1 would give, thus making it necessary to upgrade anyway?

Good Point Tek Diver, I thought the same thing. Though the separate components are very nice and if you did upgrade, you could always put the N6 on a separate monitor. I mean, what do we do with the old monitor when we take it out? I would probably make it a tinted window or something

.

jeremyvnc,
yep, every year i end up finally throwing out what's been replaced.
still, it seems so much more convient to buy seperated compentnts. comparing monitors to the compatible list / incompatible list, endless hrs on the web looking for an LCD that gives the contrast, refresh, components, etc you're looking for...gets tidious. i bought the plans 3 weeks ago and am getting impatient to begin.
now that someone has posted the Benq FP567sv2 as strippable, it's looking very atractive to me.
thanks for all the help guys!

No problem.
It took me about a month to start on my project because when I came into this, I didn't even know what a fresnel was or how to say it (Frey-nell

) so I can sympathize with you in being impatient. But just wait for when your parts start coming in everyday like mine. Like one of my previous topics called it's like christmas everyday. It really is!
Plus, in waiting to build you are hopefully learning everything you can as I did.
(Why do you think I've got so many posts?)

Tek, the N6 won't be outdated for a long time.

only when the connections become outdated or a better format than High definition comes out...

NOW INTRODUCING: ULTRA DEFINITION! FIFTY TIMES BETTER THAN HIGH DEFINITION BECAUSE YOU DON'T JUST WATCH IT, YOU FEEL IT!!
HAHAHAHAHAH

That'll be the day.

High definition was suppose to be the standard in 2001. The only way I will ever get it where I live is if I buy a dish. We have one of the last community owned tv services in the country. I wouldnt expect anything better then hdtv to be a reality for some time.

I haven't got to work on it much the past week. The construction of the coffee table will take me some time. The first projector was kind of my testing grounds. I have been putting more time into the design aspect then the building right now. I have a couple weeks off coming soon so I will most likely get moving on the building stage then.

tryn2havefun is using the Samsung 1555, and he had some great pics of his projector in Project Gallery. I ended up buying mine after talking to him. I wish I had known about the Nextvision prior to buying my Kworld tv box.
