Well I just finished my Haas Style enclosure and getting all the bugs worked out. One problem I have ran into was my fan noise. Currently I am using a vari-speed Aquarium fan, that gets upto 103cfm. The box stays really cool, which I like but could stand a little less noise. I started looking for the best fan as far as cfm and dba. One issue I have found that most actually have LEDs. I was wonder if these could be easily disconnected or removed. Also if I were to add a dryer vent like others have in that past would it cut down on light leaks without reducing air output. I have found the following fans that are roughly 80cfm and 21dba. I would assume that this would push enough air to keep me cool since Haas originally used a 60cfm in his.

Thanks

Any input would be great!

That may be pushing it for cfm's. The evercool PCAC sold in the store is over 100cfm at 23 dbl, plus, if less air is needed, the fan can be turned down, thus reducing the noise.

Well my hole is already cut for 120mm square sad.gif Just trying to fill that without any adjustment. Haas originally used a 55cfm in his design, I would hope that 78cfm would be enough. Also at 21dba you could probably not hear it at all if mounted on the ceiling. My major concern is light leaks.

I purchased the thunderblade for $8 shipped couldn't beat the price and I'll see if it works

Those decibal numbers have been proven to be incorrect. Their DB's are actually around the mid to high 30's from what i remember.

Though i feel their cfm's are probably enough for the task, its the published numbers i take issue with. If you're ok with the usual 80cfm/38db then go for it. But if you want something with a tad better CFM/DB ratio, then i suggest giving the panaflo's a look. Panaflo has three 120mm models with varying degrees of rpm and DB.

This place lists all three panaflo's: http://www.bestbyteinc.com/products.asp?dept=39 but their price is nearly double as elsewhere.

This is the particular panaflo i'm using: http://www.so-trickcomputers.com/Merchant2...ategory_Code=FF

Edit: ahh, just noticed you bought the thunderblade. Well only one way to find out now! smile.gif

I honestly think it would be OK. I saw a thread in someones PLOG where their PJ ran ALL NIGHT LONG with no fans running at all. (there are pics and it's a scary sight!)

Yes, the fresnels melted, but the LCD panel still worked after replacing the lenses and fans. I think as long as your moving air, your going to be fine.

Of couse I'm not one to show proof, my PJ has 5 fans in it. *points at PLOG link*. biggrin.gif

My main concern what noise. I guess if it's not 21dba it's not as good as I thought. I'm going to try and find some reviews on it to find out how loud it acutally is. I guess it's to good to be true smile.gif

Heh. As far as noise goes, I guess I'm not the one to ask. smile.gif My fans are loud enough that I can't hear the telephone when the projector's running... Of course I just turn up the sound system to compensate. blink.gif

well the reviews I read stated anywhere from 26dbs to 35, either way this is decent. Might upgrade to a pana later if this gives me troubles. Tahnks for the info everyone I'll let you know as soon as i get it. Couldn't beat $8.00 shipped though

I bet it'll be more than fine, and yes $8 shipped for an 80cfm model is pretty darn good. The cheapest ones always seem to be around 50-60 cfm for some reason.
