Which way should the Lexan heat shield face the bulb for proper uv protection, with the green side, or the white side?

It should say right on it "this side towards the sun" don't quote me but I think white is towards the bulb

Green side toward the bulb. HD has their inventory mis-marked.

my piece of xl10 states the side with the writing towards the sun not the green side

I would go by any indications that are marked on the factory applied film if any rather than a sticker that may have been applied later. I don't know if this helps or not.

I would say that the orientation probably only matters to the longevity of the lexan and your LCD will be protected either way.

I think I heard something about the lexan getting a yellow tint if wrong side is to the sun

You do peel the backing of both sides right? I peeled off both sides and the piece of lexan is clear on both sides.. I have no idea which side faces which now..

Any way to tell? Or did I screw up by peeling off the film on the one side..

thanks!

You do peel off both sides. You have to be careful so you remember which side is which. I know of no simple way to tell once the sides are peeled off.

How would that work???
If the UV coating is on either side the UV gets blocked, how would you know if it is on the right side or left??? I think the simple answer is the UV filter will stop the UV from getting to the LCD either way. Its just that the Lexan XL itself may yellow will use if you install the wong way. So either buy an new peice and mark or put it in and if it yellows you got it wrong and need to replace or if it doesn't you were right and everythings fine. So you have a 50-50 chance of having to buy a new $5 peice.

So can anyone with a peice tell us which side it is? I alway thought the green side had the uv film, but now I'm not sure.

Would the yellow tint through off the desired pure white light from the buld making a noticible difference?

Yes it should be green side towards sun (bulb).
mantis
When looking at my own piece of Lexan, it is factory marked that the green side should face the sun, so green side towards the bulb!

Yes, you're supposed to peel the film off of both sides. The caution is that you have to keep track of which side is which. (I suggest a discreet ink mark in a corner on the side that faces the lamp.)

Just follow the labels. If there are labels on both sides, then believe the side that looked factory marked.

I do. Just install it. If it yellows over time (and it's supposed to take some time), you guessed wrong, and you have to pay $5 for a replacement piece. In the meantime, enjoy your projector.
