hi every one i have found this site and im going to make a pj i bought the guide and i have read it. im planning to build my pj in the summer school gets out in 2 weeks .

i had some ? about the cooling, i am going to buy 2 WF12v Evercool PCAC Fan
from LL, i was wondering if it would be ok if i mounted one fan in the top back left and the other on the top back right?

and i was also wondering about the thermometer woult i be able to use this

http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?cata...5Fid=63%2D1039#

and if so where would i place the probe?

when i make the box in the guide (page 14) it says make a 1/2 slot in the middle of the lid to make air flow. could i just make the lid in to 2 lids and make one 1/2 shorter? and that way i would be able to get to the compartment i would like i would not have ot open the whole thing and i would not have to rought out a slot.

You could use 2 fans w/ one as an intake of air, and one as an outtake of air. I was going to do that, but went w/ 1 stronger fan and will make slots in the top of the box (especially since I will be ceiling mounting my box). As far as the thermometer, I would get it closer to the top of the box (as heat rises) and as close to the LCD w/out disturbing and light pathways. Good luck!

Two fans pulling air is always better than one fan pushing and one fan pulling. You just have to make sure the intake is large enough to handle the CFM. Keep in mind that in the guide, the slit in the lid is for one fan. I would use two slits of the same area (one for each fan) if that was the way you wanted to go.

Does that thermometer have a high temp alarm? I believe the one from Malwart is comparible in price and has high and low temp alarms.

i don't know about the thermometer i just picked one off of radio shack lol
but if u know any good thermemeter that are good to use can u list them o and cheap one will do just find lol

as for the cooling here is a pic that could help see what im talking about(the slit) (this is not my box)
if u look on the lid there is a slit well i don't have a tool to make that slit so i was wondering if i can just make the lid 2 pieces insted of one. one of the lids would be 1/2" shorter. in doing that that would accommodate the slit. i am thinking this would work.

may be it could be mounted on the lid in the middle right near the lcd ?

I used an indoor out door thermometer and placed the probe under the monitor screen, where the cold air entering at the top will be at its hottest. The thermometer probe is about 1 inch long and white, you can see it through the freznel
seesoe
what type is the best to use?
bambam
This is mine, I am using it to see how the fans are performing until I get some confidence.
seesoe
here is the back of my fan i am going to use it says the info so u can look it up but i could not take a pic of it cuz there was no good working cam to use so i scaned it biggrin.gif

would i be able to use this?

That would work. If you have a table saw, you can cut a slit into the wood by slowly, slowly, SLOWLY, raising the blade into the wood where you want the slit. Cut both sides of the slit using this method and finish the ends with a hand saw. Then use a chisel ( or screwdriver) and hammer to break the ends. I hope that makes sense.

You can also do the same thing by lowering a skil saw into the wood. The table saw method is much safer but still less desireable than using a jigsaw.

i don't know but i think in other word i would have 2 pieces of mdf/wood wut ever ur useing for the lid instead of 1 piece and the back or front piece would be 1/2 shorter
seesoe
hare are the fans/fan i might use im still trying to pick from these 2 or 2evercool fans
if u want more info in the fan jsut ask got plenty
sorry for the bad pic it was from my brothers cam phone(digital cam is screwed up)

Just thought I would throw in my dime's worth...
Ever since I bought my evercools,I have heard tales of woe!!
But on the limited experience I have had,I reckon they have been top notch!
I even watched a whole movie tonight with NO SOUND! so as not to wake the family, and didn't have to think twice about fan noise,my pc (with 1 80mm fan,is noisier!
Temps seem ok.I think my sensors are in the wrong place.(or some very strange things are happening inside my pj!!!)
But basically,it is quiet, and nothing has melted after about 4 hours of use in 1 go!!
Hope this info is usefull? biggrin.gif
seesoe
ok im going to use either 1 or 2 evercools.

ok im going to buy 2 evercools (not shur when) and i might buy my lcd this week.

i bought the c shaped metal for mounthing my lcd freznels and glass.
and here is my focuse box im going to do the same thing as bam bam did with his pj
the box was from bed bath beyond for 5 bucks. it had a little lip on the bottom that would let the box sit in another box to make a big stack so i cut and sanded it off.
seesoe

hey seesoe,

I would go with that CMV if you were to ask me. I am about to buy that one myself, mainly because of the DVI input. Not to mention the CMV does not have a mail in rebate like the samsung. Icuepc has a better dead pixel policy, and free shipping. That said, this is the monitor i'm going with, hope it is a good choice.

Also, here is a nice stripdown guide.

BIG update I have got the lexan

so i put the lexan and the 2 freznals in and i got this spot light i found around the house and used that for the light and the platic baggy trick:)

then the nexted day (yesterday) i put the lcd in and i got a pic but it was not bright cuz of the spot light i was usieng only 100w(im not saying 100w is not bright lol)

ok so my things i have done are:
the box built with black paint in the inside front and wood filler all over ready to be painted, i have the focuseing mech done, i put the lid with latch, made lcd freznals mountsing bracket, i put the fuse in and the power switch form LL, i mounted the conttroler boerds for the lcd in i put a slit at the top of the box for air, o and i ordered evercools they should be here soon (i hope smile.gif )

now all i need to do is: find a way to bring wires from the front of the box to the back, then need to seal the box(weather stripping)need to paint the box, need to put filters for the slit on the top need to clean the box out form any dirt, need to mount the ikea napkin ring holder reflector theing: that shold be here friday) i need to order the lighting kit off of LL(backordered till june 24:) ), might need to adjust the lenses som might not be centered and some may be to far o close, need to get crimps for my thermalcoupling and hook that up when i get the ballest. need to make the 12v power for fans and hook up the attic fan thing to them, need to clean the lenses and thats it................. i lol and make a screen im gonna make a from fomr pvc and the fabric will be sewen by me and mom. its gonna be non glue so i can take it down take it apart and fold the fabric and store for safe keeping.

lol i made my self a big to do list and at the same time i did alot of the stuff so far:)

but the pj will not ge done soon cuz the ballest backorder (june 24(thats in a week) and i have to wait to the elecrical till then. so the grand show can be around july 1st lol or should i push it up to the 4th na i can't wait the first is alread to fat lol
