Hi All,
Lovin the project and working on the PLOG when it all comes to a halt as I realize that my bulb is more than just a little off.

Check out this link to my PLOG and tell me what you think. Im in serious doubt as to if I can make adjustments for this problem. Has anyone else encountered this? Should I just suck it up?

Thanks

Just shim the base or bent the metal bracket (in my case since it sits on a metal piece). No need for rocket science when a simple fix will work.

My design doesnt really allow for that. Otherwise I would. Im just trying to find out if this a is "normal".

Samari,

Is the base of the bulb crooked in relation to the glass envelope, or is the bulb crooked in relation to the Mogul socket ?

I rolled my Ushio on a table and did not see any appreciable runout between the glass and threaded base; however, when I installed the bulb into the base it was certainly crooked. When it was being screwed in, it really looked crooked, but once the bulb was tightened into position, it was only slightly crooked; something I was able to shim in order to fix.

Not too surprised either way for these things being crooked. I'm sure they don't keep tolerances tight as these bulbs are designed for general lighting and not for use in projector equipment. (i.e. keep them cheap) I'm sure it's just the luck of the draw when it comes to getting a "straight" one.

cheers,

its prolly just the the threads on the bulb, mine does that it seems crooked the way it sits in there the bulb is straight and the mogul too but the threads make it sit at a angle a little.

Then I think you want to ammend your design - people talk about fine-tuning bulb and reflector placement a lot to get the best brightness and the clearest image.

Take it easy,
Phil.

SamuraiJack,
do not loose any sleep over it. My bulb is about 7 degrees off the base. You will have to devise a sring loaded alignment to line up the bulb properly.
