Can Optical/Toslink and or coaxial outputs on your soundcard be used to transfer normal audio (mp3, wav, etc) to your reciever? Or are they strictly for digital movie soundtracks. Thanks.

I use the digital coax on the comp I put together for my wife and any/all sound from the comp comes out of the receiver.
