Has anyone been able to make their projector run off a remote?

With the projector mounted to the ceiling has anyone tried the following?

Conecting the cable TV or dishnetwork to the projector.

Conecting the XBOX to the projector.

I'm having a house built and I need to tell the builder what type of special connections I will need. I would like to have the Dish/cable, Xbox, DVD ect hooked up and in stationary place. I do not plan to have a TV. I want every thing to run from the projector. I also DO NOT want wires hanging all over the place. I can have electical outlets, phone jacks, Cable tV outlets put in the ceiling if I want. Does anyone know where I could get held with this. I'm using my garage as a theatre room.

Has anyone made a projector with a 7" car monitor?
What was the size of the final product?
Was the quality just as good?

What you'll need for the projector depends on what kind of input the LCD panel needs. If you have aprojector that takes composite, or S-video input, you'll want that kind of input. If it only takes VGA or DVI from the conputer, you'll have to work it through an HTPC. (Home Theater PC) If it can handle cable TV, or comonent from sattelite/HDTV you'll want that kind of a connection up there. The answer is "it depends."

Power can be operated by remote, but more likely, you'll just use a light switch. X10 stuff can be used, of course, but a light switch is probably easiest.

You can use a car 7" monitor. I've seen results from those, and they look acceptable. Most car monitors are 480X234 resolution, so understand that this will be a limiting factor. Small panels yield small projectors. I've seen one that would have fit in a standard PC case, and a couple that were very clever, and could have been even smaller. This will entirely depend on your build skill.

For channels etc, your best bet is to use an input and use a VCR or other such device to get video to the projector. If your LCD has a TV tuner, you'll probably want audio lines back down to your sound system.

A commercial projector will be smaller, and nice, but if you're using it for regular TV viewing, don't expect the bulbs to last. A LumenLab projector will last far better. One thing, though, if you don't want to be without the TV for any length of time, you'd better have at least a spare bulb. smile.gif My bulb got broken (My fault, not the bulb) and it's been hard waiting for the replacement bulb to arrive. smile.gif

could also run everything off an n6 and just have a 25ft vga cable running to the projector and place all your components in a stationary area that way all you need in the ceiling is a power wire and a vga wire. as for a remote you can make it were a house switch will control a wall outlet in the ceiling and turn it on and off like that or use and appliance module for x10 that can handle 500w or 15 amps and use an x10 remote.
