Full Version: HELP ! 17" + FORUM Suggestion

Hi to all,

If you look at the pinned articles in this forum section you will find NO section on different Lenses/LCD/Triplet combos.

May I ask for such section to be created ?
Presently, it's all scattered in PLOGs, questions, private & public, etc.

I'd like to see sections that answer specific builds:

- 17" LCD + Pro Fresnels (problem not fixed) + Pro Lenses (Problem not fixed)
- 17" LCD + Pro Fresnels (problem fixed) + Pro Lenses (Problem not fixed) <--- MY CASE
- 17" LCD + Regular Lenses
- etc...

- Sections for 15", 7", etc. would also help clean the Forums.

This would make it a lot easier to find pertinent information for THE projector we are building.

I am building a 17" projector with PRO Fresnels and PRO Triplet (with the problem to be solved)

Q1) What are the exact distances from one to another ?
Q2) Will this change when the Pro Triplet gets fixed ? (i.e. will I have to build another box ?
Q3) Where would you look in the forums for this kind of information - if not in a specific section ? blink.gif
For fun, try searching for 17" or 15"
- it's impossible...

Thanks to everyone.

CBY,

I'll second that! I've been lurking for over six months and always have to search ALL OVER for info on 17" info.

A separate "sub-forum" for for 17"+ guys would be great. I've got my HTPC and 17" Samsung ready to go, but I'm not budging till all the problems are resolved.

I'd give a left nut for the PRO fesnels and lenses. Waiting for this long stinks. LL stands to make $400 plus from me, as soon as these issues are resolved!!!

ONE MORE BIG VOTE FOR A SEPARATE 17" AREA!!!

Hi Reflexx,

I've ALREADY DISHED OUT:

3 x Pro fresnels
3 x Pro triplet
3 x LCD

THX to Brain & LL I have the right Fresnels now but am still waiting for the Triplet issue to be fixed.

Thanks for your vote for a separate 17" section !!! LOL biggrin.gif

Good luck to you too on your 17"

Sounds funny saying you have a 17" - auuugghh forget that thought!

Allow me to add my voice in support of a subsection dedicated to 17" projectors.

At present, I am waiting for the last few bits of electronics and optics to show up,
for my projector. It'll be a samsung 172mp monitor with the ultimate lighting kit
and a opaque projector lens that was ganked from a ts-5 spotlight. I've had a
lot of fun so far in doing my research, and nabbing parts. However, rummaging
through 3 different forums in search of data, parts that are known to work, and
schematics is likely more than some people are willing to invest in a "simple"
DIY project.

Lumenlab has a superb forum community, and it is the best I have so far encountered
for DIY projectors, bar none. However, there does seem to be an increasing shift towards
the use of 17" monitors for projector use and I would like to see this interest reflected
in the structure of the forums.

I have posed those same questions in a few places.
A seperate forum would be superb.
I am choming at the bits for the new triplets.
As soon as anyone gets the new dimentions, please post them.

I have heard this saying many times in my life, and contemplated in many times. Serious thought has gone into "giving my left nut" for many different things...And after all the sleepless nights pondering this, I've come to the conclusion that I like my left nut where it is, and wouldn't give it for anything...

If you want the basic distances for the pro lenses, then you missed reading the pinned threads in the Reference and Tutorials section. There is a diagram there that is all you need. Otherwise the method is pretty much the same as building the 15".

I don't want the basic distances (I bought the guide for a 15" and I'm building a 17"). I was told a 17" guide was coming in 2004.

i) Still thinks we need a separate section for 17" projectors. (i.e. the reflector can be bigger..., pro triplet problem in the corners, etc.) Who would NOT benefit from a little clarity ? There's help all over this forum and that's great - unfortunately it is all over the place and not categorized. People ask the same questions over and over again - there must be a reason, no ?

ii) If you refer to here then it's for a 15".
- it doesn't mention what kind of Fresnel + Triplet is used... we know it's NOT the Pro ones.

iii) My questions are still not answered:
- Concerning the Pro Triplet vs Good Fresnels will I have to rebuild my box when I get a replacement Triplet? Brain seems to think not a problem - does anyone really know ?
- With the Pro Fresnels + Triplet + 17" LCD, how do you calculate the distances easily ? Has anyone done so or is everyone simply reproducing someone elses stuff ?

The focal lengths will not change, therefor you will not rebuild your box. The diagram KOS referred to is here:

Yep. And the thread title has PRO LENS in it. To be honest, that's all I need to build my 17" and I'm betting that all of us who have built 17" projectors with the pro lenses based their build on these measurements and the adjusted the 15" plans accordingly.

People tend to think that the 17" is more difficult than it is. The structure of the build is the same.

Personaly I consider my pj as a continual work in progress so I build with an eye towards flexibility and adjustability, so I don't have too many concerns regarding the replacement lens. No one can answer your question about the replacement lenses and the box because there is NO information available until Brain gets his hands on them. However the intended focal length of the replacement is supposed to be still within the range of the old lens, so that's why it should be a simple swap. Obviously it might be worth your while to WAIT until the final lenses become available to be certain.

Thanks to KOS & Brain. I'll build it as with the link from Brain.

Gents,

So what's the decision from management? Do we get a 17" area?

As for getting started, I can't even get fresnel lenses (they're not in the store anymore). I understand they are getting "reworked" but it's been months.

Do we have 100% dimensions for these lenses? I can build the box using pieces of acrylic to simulate the lenses, if I have the dims.

ANY UPDATES TO FRESNELS OR TRIPLETS???

I'm tired of asking. So far no news.
