I have a LL eballast that sometimes puts out emi that severely distorts and flickers the image on the LCD. It doesn't do it all the time, it comes and goes.
I thought it was a FFC that had a bad connection. I even went out and bought another LCD, but it did the same thing. I then tried turning on the LCD and shining a flashlight through it, with the lamp/ballast turned off. There was no distortion or any problems of any kind. I then flipped the switch for the eballast, and as soon as the bulb fired, the distortion appeared on on the LCD. To further confirm that this was the problem, I took the LCD for my desktop (Dell 2005fp) and placed it near the projector. The same thing appeared on that screen.
I then took the wires connecting the controller card (in the projector) going to the LCD and wrapped them in Al. foil, then wrapped it in electrical tape. This reduced the occurance of the distortion probably 75%.
My eballast is located on the outside of my box. To verify that heat wasn't causing it, I grabbed a 10" box fan and had it blow on the eballast, which didn't help at all.
I'll take some pictures of it next time it occurs. Anyone else have any problems like this? I know someone here documented an issue where the eballast put out EMI that would interfere with certain cable channels, I believe it was 6-13.
