I was wondering what the best way to play an xbox is when your capture card is a PVR-150?

If you have an N6 or a VDigi, those are probably your best options. If you're set on using your tuner, you won't have as nic results. I wasn't happy the way xbox looked with my AIW9800 and 19" LCD.

You could try using descaler and ffdshow...somebody said they had it working without any delay. If you try to clean it up too much, you'll start to introduce some lag in the display.

I'm wondering this myself... What specifically didn't you like about running it with the AIW?

Thanks!

Dergrin was the one that got this to work, by the way.

Bright colors were really bright...any yellow or white would wash a scene out. I turned down brightness and the darks became too dark. There's a beach board on champions of norrath (PS2). Everything was just toooooo bright.

If that's all you got, then you can proabably make due. Costs nothing to test for yourself if you already have a tv tuner.

If I recall, he's running dscaler with his Xbox via PVR-150 too.
Dergrin
Yes, Dscaler or Wintv2k both work with the PVR-150. I perfer the deinterlacing in Dscaler compared to that of wintv2k. If you have delay issues you can download this Tweak tool and enable live preview. That worked for me. Dscaler is touchy though when using it. Whenever the computer tries to perform any other process besides Dscaler it will introduce a delay. To solve this you just have to restart Dscaler, which takes about 3 seconds but is annoying if in the middle of a game.

P.S. Gamecube works just fine too.
mantis
Thanks Dergrin. Greatly appreciated!

If you up the thread priority in DScaler (in the options, something about running DScaler on it's own) you won't get any delay. I get perfect picture through my old PCTV Pro Card with my Xbox (with a few filters and tweaks in DScaler of course).

Dergrin
What are those filters and tweaks. Do you notice any deinterlacing when objects move quickly across the screen. If not, what did you do to fix this?

Has anyone played with the new pixel interpolation options in that new version of XBMC pictured above?

I noticed it, but haven't had time to hook it up to a HD monitor and screw around with it yet. Maybe over the weekend i'll check it out.

I've been screwing around doing this junk.

Hey Dergrin,

I noticed the Hauppage registry trick page:

http://www.cask-of-amontillado.com/pvr_reg.html

mentions the Live Preview setting is specific to the PVR 250/350.. Do you have the PVR 150? Also, the trick doesn't mention dscaler, so I'm assuming that is only necessary for the PVR 150?

Also, when you mention that when the computer tries to do something else, this induces a delay, what do you mean? Would it be like if I opened up another program? What if I left my computer alone, would it possibly randomly start the delay on its own?

I'm just looking for a stress-free way to hook up my ps2 through my htpc..

thanks!

Using Greedy, High Motion Deinterlacing.. and nope I don't notice any deinterlacing when objects move quickly accross the screen.

I have all the filters/post processing options turned off in XBMC - Compiled that version on the 16/05/2005. I usually build the latest from CVS about every 2 weeks.

I'm using PCTV pro with btxxx chipset, which still has about a $200rrp on it in stores.

Get absolutly no delay either

The tweak tool is just a gui interface that lets you choose what options you want to change and changes them for you in the registry. It does the same thing as if you went in to your registry and changed some 0's to 1's or vice versa.
I think it is just a way for people not to mess up stuff in their registry.

And with the delay. Yes I mean if you try to open another program it will cause a delay, but if you leave it alone it is fine. I also found out if you changed one of the settings in dscaler to increase its priority then it takes a lot to cause a delay.

Hope that helps.

I just got a PVR-150 and hooked up my gamecube right away. I don't have any delays using WinTv or DScaler but the picture is kinda blury. I'm connecting via composite and will look for a an S-Video cable soon. Anyway to get the picture sharper? Is there anyway to get FFDShow to work with DScaler?

Thanks.

Another XBMC user! I haven't checked out the post processing filters in XBMC yet... YET. We'll see what happens soon enough.

Shoot me a PM if you find out anything new regarding XBMC and filters.

BTW, I had a 10 led ring in my Xbox at one point, but found out that it caused glare on the screen. Out it came! cool.gif
mantis
roqfa,
the s-video will help the picture a lot.

XBMC is the only reason I bought an XBox smile.gif It turned out to be so useful I bought another XBox! One for upstairs and one for downstairs

Just hooked up my xbox with the pvr-150. Many thanks to dergrin! Unfortunately the picture quality is really less than desireable. It is quite blurry, almost to the point of not wanting to use it. Are the results that strent got simply because of his different capture card vs the pvr-150, and does the 150 always give such a bad image with the xbox. If anyone knows how to make the image closer to strent's, I would love to know how, or I am not sure I will be using the xbox with the pj which would be a major dissapointment.
mantis
Strent,
what size is your image with the xbox?
