KenMark 15KN10E5 LCD TV
Has FFC issues Odd size 11mm wide 16pin , Stripping was easy after about 20 or so screws the lcd came right out. Ag removal was also easy after a 1 hour paper towel soaking it came right off cool.gif

This picture of the FFC is exactly like my e-machine 15". Is it fixable? I ordered a 6" .05mm 16 pin extention from LL and am waiting . . . it's out of stock until December. Until then, I have it taped to my overhead projector and can use it okay except for the circuit boards n the way. One problem I noticed right away is that it is ghosting badly.....ugh. Anything I can do about that?

Hey there gang!

My first time posting here, I am feeling in WAY OVER MY HEAD.....
My first time stripping LCD
I just bought the mega kit and started the process.
I have purchase a Starlogic 15" LCD from Circiut City Model F159 and appears to have similar problems with the FFC Wiring issues although from the other posts it looks as though I might be able to purchase an extension for the 90 degree wiring between the two boards? I don't know anything about electronics except the absolute basics and would grately appreciate any assistance available.....

A couple of questions here:

Does it matter which way you turn the LCD? It appears my boards will be on the top of my box?
There were 2 clear sheets btw my Light source and LCD. Are they necessary? Or should I remove them?

The Viewsonic VX900 19" display suffers from a mild FFC issue, though the LL 6" 20 pin 0.5mm FFC extension or equivalent should fix the issue. A bit big, but has a nice resolution.

Philips Brilliance 151 AX has FFC issues (a 20 pin fcc is too short). Not recommendable. However, it has a control to move the picture horizontaly and verticaly around the screen, so 16:9 films can be shown without problems.
Mandar
You can add samsungs syncmaster 151s to the list of the FFC problem. Great monitor other than the 90 degree FFC connecting the 2 boards. Oh well just have to try another brand.
SkullStatue
The KDS Rad-5 models strip well, but have quite a few FCC issues that can be fixed with extensions. The whole setup is also very messy, but can't beat it for the price.......
SuperJETT
Even though it's listed here, I just stripped a Dell e152fpc and it looks very usable, no ffc problem that I can tell. I'll post pics to get verification.

ADDED: Here's the pic, no ffc problems at all. I assume Dell had a couple different suppliers for the e152fpc so YMMV.

Some experiences.... LG 13.3 laptop LCD (LP133X2) NOT COMPATIBLE.... has a non-fcc connector which plugs directly from side board into the board which folds over. Can't extend.

Sony M51-D, compatible with 20pin FCC extension

NOVA 15.4' (WXGA 1280x800) from bestbuy canada... only 119 canadian. Fairly easy to strip, does have FCC issue, but resolved with 20 pin extension. ( Not compatible with LCD being knocked off a desk and the conrner cracking... For sale, 1 WXGA controller board)

Samsung Synchmaster 172mp: 90 degree FFC issue

In http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread....p;pagenumber=37 it is mentioned that "Samsung 540N is easily strippable and has no FFC issues." Which one is correct, or is there any old new model conflict makes this?

Both may be correct. It's a definite thing that manufacturers use different LCD panels from different manufacturers during production.
So, two of the same model may well have different LCDs, one with an FFC issue, and one without.
The more accurate way of identifying such things as which have an issue and which don't is by the LCD model number itself, not the monitor.

Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to know what LCD is in a monitor without taking it apart.
Basically, it's a best guess that you might get a version without issues.

I bought one of these a couple months ago with my projector in mind. I think whomever stated this LCD won't work was incorrect; it just needs an 18 pin .5 mm pitch extension for the two driver boards. I just ordered the extension and I'll be trying it out when it arrives with the rest of my kit.

Hi my monitor an acer fp563 looks exactly like yours in the picture. How successful were you in extending the ffc , any pictures or refernces to parts would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Mitsubishi NXM56LCD

Has FFC issues. See pictures. I guess you can fix that by extending that little brown wire, but its hard to find.

PS: From what i can tell reading this thread, that most of NECs and Mitsus (with i believe made by same company) are not compatible. So i'd stay away from this brand.

Actually, the extension cable is very easy to find/buy and extend on these units.I have a 15" TruTech brand LCD/TV with this exact configuration.

The cable is a 10 pin 4" extension, works fine and will allow attached LCD circuit boards to be on the side of LCD,where they belong in a Pj build.I used a 10 pin bottom contact style connector to join the ends. Both ends will fit into 1 connector, just be sure you are joining the metal contacts together.Pull out the clip(on the connector),align the ends of ffc, insert into connector, push the clip back in.It'll be tight, but thats what you want.**On EDIT,REMEMBER,your only using the connector to join both ends of the ffc.The solder pins and internal contacts on the connector are irrelevent, you wont use/need them.**

Heres the Mouser website catalog page url and part numbers to do this. They are based in Texas and ship fast and are a quality company,IMO.They'll even send you a THICK catalog with lots of micro circuit parts upon request.

I thought I'd show the procedure for extending the flat flex cable on these panels. Its easy, just be very careful with that brown ffc that is soldered to the c.board.Its delicate, and should be treated as if your your a surgeon operating on your best friend, that would be the main artery to their heart,so to speak wink.gif .The aftermarket Mouser extension ffc is much more forgiving/thicker and less weak.

If possible,Use a hands free Magnifier when connecting these ffc's.

Sorry about the blurry and/or dark pics. This camera is a recent purchase and I'm unfamilar with its settings, but they are usable for this.
Heres a pic of the tiny connector with clip closed:
Visit My Website
connector with clip open(must be open when inserting the 2 ffc ends):
Visit My Website
One end of ffc,metal side:
Visit My Website
Both ends with metal contacts facing each other:
Visit My Website

2 ends ALIGNED/joined/connected AND with clip pushed in.....
Visit My Website
Now be sure both ends are ALIGNED here and pushed in to a dead stop, equally. They MUST be aligned properly to have your screen work correctly.Mine were off a little the first time(screen was funky/fuzzy looking) and I had to do this procedure AGAIN.Do it carefully the 1st time and you won't have too! biggrin.gif

Heres the ffc's connected AND angled.Your angle is whatever your build calls for,as long as the c.boards and ffc extension are out of the way of the LCD.These aftermarket ffc's can be bent/creased/flattened to your configuration,ONE TIME,maybe 2.I would make sure you know the final layout, so these are'nt bent/creased more than twice.Visit My Website

Now heres a rough pic of how the ffc's should be connected. This pic is of a UNCUT 10 pin 8" ffc extension that I did'nt need and am using only for DEMO purposes.Visit My Website
Using DimaR's pictures, the top aftermarket ffc would connect with the factory c. board female connector on the left, same kind of clip. The ffc on the right going down would connect with the factory (and delicate!!!!) ffc.

A 4" extension was all I needed on my panel though.I wanted just enough extension to do the job, without extra cable to fuss with.

Almost any ffc extension can be done this way on the cheap.

That is how I do it.I've never extended these ffcables on digital cameras before, only replaced them. They are much more difficult with extremely tight tolerances.

Hope this helps.LWM
