This is a list of all LCDs
known to be incompatible for our projectors. This is not a thread to ask whether an unknown monitor will work or not. Those questions may be addressed in the Untested products thread:
http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18Let's try to stay on topic here. Thanks!

Can you please explain a "FCC issue"?What exactly is the problem with using this if it strips ok?

ktulu-
The FFC (not FCC) issue is detailed in some of the other threads, and I think in the PDF, but basically the connectors for the panel and its controllers (Flat Flexible Cable) can be too short, brittle, etc. for use in the project since you need to reposition some of the electronics.

I've never had to do it but I've studied the problem some. Micro soldering I believe is the worst solution. If cable can be found that has the same pitch and connector count, 2 lengths can be used to extend your cable without soldering. Basically you would take 2 lengths of cable and clamp them together with their conductive edges facing each other. Then you would clamp one end of this to your FFC with their conductive edges facing each other. This would extend the cable and give you the right pin orientation on the other end. I'll try to make a drawing of this.
Many people have found the cable they need from digikey:
http://www.digikey.com/If you have a local electronics supply house (NOT Radio Crack) you can probably take your cable in and they can match up your FFC for you, in theory at least.
Also, plain extension cables are known to exist, it's just finding them that's challenging.

here's another monitor with a FFC issue.
Compaq TFT500
it's an older monitor with low contrast (200:1 i believe) but it does need to have a single 24pin 0.5mm cable extended. (Brainchild can get these!!)
so if you do get one for cheap (or even free!) it's not too hard to make work.

KOGI 14" LCD
Strip friendly but has 20 pin FFC issue. FFC from Lumenlab alone did not solve issue because needs a FPC connector and cable to clamp the FCP cable from LCD circuit board to the extension cable. 6" lenght barely reaches the board. A longer extension will work best. FCP are thinner than FFC. FFC will not fit connector on LCD vertical driver PCB. As this brand may just work off the same path in future production of LCDs my advice would be NOT to buy KOGI monitors.

It's a pity since it has a spec'd 800:1 contrast ratio typical. I'm going to try an extension. We'll see how it works.

Just finished stripping a NEC Multisync 1550M and put it back together.
Issues are;
1. 90 degree FFC
2. The boards are at the bottom of the LCD which would put them at the top of the box once upside down.
Result, wife has a good monitor now.

Phillips Brilliance 150P2
Has a circuit board on the bottom and down the left side of the the LCD both connected to the panel by FFC's, the two boards are seperated by a 90 degree FFC that has varying track width.
Very difficult if not impossible to work with.

I fried the glass on my jetway 15" doing this, FYI

If your monitor has an FFC issue, for pete's sake, put it back together and take it back.
[moderator's note: "Taking it back" is not an option once you've taken it apart. Opening your LCD is a violation fo the manufactuer's warranty, and taking it back at that point would be warranty fraud. Lumenlab does not recommend or endorse this practice- OKflyboy]
If you're looking for answers here about this problem, you're *probably* not good enough to do it yourself. Find an easier monitor to strip. Trust me, it will be less expensive in the long run. My "cheap" brand new $200 monitor is now spare parts

so the hunt is back on for a monitor without FFC issues. None. Not-a-one. It's not worth the hassle, and very real chance that the same thing will happen again.

I bought one of these a couple months ago with my projector in mind. I think whomever stated this LCD won't work was incorrect; it just needs an 18 pin .5 mm pitch extension for the two driver boards. I just ordered the extension and I'll be trying it out when it arrives with the rest of my kit.

I haven't seen it listed yet; NEC 1530V has FCC issues. 20 pin FFC at a 90 angle soldered on one side and zif connector on other. Made so that the bottem controller panel for the lcd panel folds ontop of the actual panel and then plugs into the side panel. I've had many issues with this monitor.

you've already stripped it? if so, you might want to put the panel number/where manufactured/year here too as the 518A has been used before with no problems, I just searched it because I thouhgt the model sounded familiar.....
just goes to show that manufacturers just switch panels at random...what worked yesterday is no guarantee it will work again..

I just tried a NEC 1512 LCD. Good enough picture and 400:1 CR but an 90 degree FFC issue, not something easily exteneded because of the wierd way the wires in the FFC were laid out. Exact same issue as the last monitor I tried, a Metro 15" from futureshop. I wouldn't be surprised if they were the same panel.

Hisense 15" LCD TV- LCD1504
Found commonly on Ebay.
Has FFC Issue. Pic below shows the two boards folded over the back of the LCD, connected by a very short FFC. This CAN be fixed by tracing the vias and soldering real wires (which I eventually did). Other than that, it was very easty to strip, is cheap, and has decent specs:

400:1 contrast
16ms response

Tatung CLT-L50 (Marked on rear sticker as L50) - 15 inch LCD monitor.

This is a re-badged HP monitor - I peeled back my sticker and it had the HP logo stamped into the plastic.
FFC issue - I don't know how many pins on the connector, but when I saw it, I just left it alone.
This monitor also looks quite difficult to strip as well, so best avoid this one.
It is not initially obvious how to access this insides of the monitor but I discovered the way.
Unusually, access is only available through the front of the screen. The stand cannot be removed on this model.
You need to prise a screw driver (or two) through the four holes located at the rear base of the monitor and remove the front panel surround. The LCD panel and all electronics can be lifted out after removing four screws.
