OK got my new CNC Machine made you can read about it here..
http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5960

So I was thinking about cutting an image into some PVC Plastic, and having the Backlight show through it. Here is my 1st test piece i did today a real quicky, But you can get the Idea. I used a 12v adapter for a power supply.

Also we could make maybe a side plate for the projector its self and have it iluminated from the bulb, i would think it would need a 1/2" thick piece, this one is only 1/8" thick..

OK Pictures now, 1st one is after it is cut, second one is when it is laying across the backlight.

Just looked at that cnc machine. Wow. For Joe, a lumenlab projector must be childs play.

That backlight thing is a sweet idea. You could make a whole set of interchangable pieces and even mix colored pieces connected. You could make some truely sweet designs.

Does anyone know of an easy way to connect these if you just have the backlight and not the board? I have a BenQ, and the inverter is along with the other electronics on the main board, so I have a backlight without an inverter.

we would have to see what the ratings of the bulbs are 1st.

I have 2 backlights (one from my first LCD which I destroyed...oops) I am going to use to make a backlight for a Stained Glass picture I have.

I'll post some pics of it when I'm finished.

BTW, I wanted to ask, do you think it would work ok if I used the two backlight panels with a couple of standard "skinny" flourescent lights instead of using the ones with the original backlights? I'm not too thrilled about having to "rig" up all the electronics that goes with these to get this to work...

Something like this. ('scuse the crappy drawing)

yes it should work fine as long as they are the length of the backlight assembly

was wondering when someone would start showing ideas for making use of the resulting parts from the lcd screens. Those backlights could be cool for PC modding or to backlight your retrogaming Acrcade mamecab marquee.

or any plethora of uses.
yes, i said "plethora"

What specs do we need to figure out what kind of inverter is needed? I also have a benq, and the inverter is part od the controller for the lcd.

Joe, I have no way that I know of to find the specifications of the lights. What should I look for to find the specifications?

Funny you should say that because I almost did just that. I had an old scanner that had a broken PCB which would have been easy to fix had I realize that was what the problem was but since I didn't realize that until I had the thing completely apart I just kept what I thought I might use at some point in time and trashed the rest.

The CCFL was going to go into a bartop arcade machine to light the marquee but I had it sticking out of a beer bottle to make sure it didn't burn or melt anything on my desktop and I reached over it to grab something and my arm hit it and it cruched! ohmy.gif

Oh well, it was free!
