Which would be the easiest (safest) for a newbie to start out with stripping? The Benq 567 v2 or the cmv 520D. Want to start with the easy one lol.

Well, there probably aren't a lot of people who have done both and can give you a fair comparison. I can tell you I used the CMV 520D and the strip was very straightforward and trouble free (once I figured out how to unclip the ffc connectors blink.gif ). There's a very good thread on stripping it too.

Werd. I used the same one. Very stripably friendly (is stripably a word? laugh.gif ).

Check out forkev's guide on the 520D. Xanderphillips also has a good guide to the CMV 529 which is very similiar if you need more help/pics.

Although I found forkev's guide sufficient all by itself. Stripping the LCD was easier than I thought it would be actually.

well what can i say that already hasnt been said it seems that the benq is a little better quality and the 520d is great quality for the cost so i went with the 520d also

I think the Benq requires grounding, so for a newbie, I'd say go with the 520D.

So I take it that the 520D does not require grounding? Just plug it in and it's ready to rock?

That's all I did with mine.

Plug and play, baby! cool.gif

Not true at all. All people need to do it leave the electronics in their tray, I didn't touch anything with my BenQ557 and stripped it in under 30 minutes. People should make their projector boxes about 1.5-2" deeper for the electronics anyway and then all you do is screw the electronics board into proj case and your done, easy as pie.

Same results here. Don't remove the benq control boards from the metal tray, and no problems.

I agree with you guys...

I also stripped the BenQ in about half an hour, and there is a handy guide to stripping the BenQ (and some other stuff) linked from this page: http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=940

Leaving the BenQ electronics in the tray works great. The excess metal around the outside of the electronics box can be snipped off with some patience and tin snips (altough you might get a couple jagged edges on the metal box)

Thanks guys, man I love this ******* place!!! With help like this I may just be able to actually build one tongue.gif . I had ordered a refurb 567 v2 from benqshopper but talked to a guy over the online dept and he said they were out of them. Supposed to call me back monday to see if he's found any. What's the difference between the 567 v2 and the 557 and 557 v2? if theres not that big a difference I'l check on one of those. Again, thanks to all for their input...

So the only difference between the 557 and the 557 v2 is the v2 has an updated lcd, ok I get that. But you lost me on the difference between a 557 anything and the 567 anything. Are you saying the only difference between the 557 and the 567 is that a 567 has speakers?

Yes.

I'm just echoing what the guys befor me have said...But a picture is worth 1000 words.

I have the benq 557s (no speakers) also easy strip and something else you cant say about all monitors, simple wire bundle form Screen to control boards, it doesn't use an FFC.

The monitor frame is sitting on a 2x4 to clear the metal frame that the boards sit in. I just turned it over and screwed it to the bottom of the projector.

Thats the only ground wire I used not sure if it was necessary but it was no trouble to add it.
