Hello all,
heres my pj i made took awhile because of heat problems but all sorted out now.
i built the box using mdf, and sprayed it with a 2 pak under coat and then finally a black finish.
its use's;
15inc Samsung 510n
400w double sided contact globe
Ballast etc....
2 evercool fans
2 60mm fans extra's
small light tunnel (no reflector) the reflector increased the heat but didnt increase the brightness so much so i didnt bother.
heat timmer
uv filter
len's
etc.....
cool well i hope you all like.
heres some picture, straight onto a flat painted wall, there are pretty big pictures.. like my movies big

cheers

slick indeed savo
really like the finish on your PJ.
And that room is such a good projection space. The first shot (is it full metal jacket?) is beautiful.
If you don't mind me asking, can you elaborate on the process of painting your box. (sorry box doesnt actually do it justice

)!
I take it the undercoats act as some sort of sealant for the mdf cos when the final balck is applied it has a metallic effect. Real nice.
What primmer/sealant and main coat did you use
thanks in advance and nice work! Enjoy your viewing!

That looks great, you should be really pleased with your work. Looking to start getting the parts I need to build my first DIY Projector on pay day this week, and it's good to see some locals having a go. How about some prices and a heads-up of where you sourced the materials? And could we please have some more photos of the inside?
Well done mate, if mine ends up looking that good I will be really pleased.

Far from it. It's from

thanks,
foxy;
yeah the 2 pak acts as a sealent, i just hit it with 2 pak under coat put acouple of real heavy coats, wait till it drys, sand it back using 400grid then finish with 800 grid.
Now the black finish can be just in a acrylic, spray on some more heavy coats dont worrie if it isnt smooth, let it dry, then hit it with 1200grid then 2000 grid and buff with some cuting compond just using a towel and some elbow grease

tuan_823,
the screen is about 4 meters wide, in them photos. yeah its nice when its hanging just get abit bulry text, so you have a limit on how high you can go, i tilled my LCD to help with the blur and the projection lens is full ajustable (left, right etc...), so pretty good after you adjust it,,,,, have fun,
sideways,
email chris parker, he runs a hydro shop real nice guy. Chris Parker [nutriflo@bigpond.net.au]
there pretty sick things once you get them going right, watch UFC 52 on it the other day, Sh*t yeah! ..... Cant wait till i get a screen up see how the pic looks then.

Thats an awesome projector, the best looking one I've seen. Do you have any problems sliding the projector along that track? Do you have the ballast mounted externally or underneath the bulb flashing? Is the Bracket home made or did u buy it? Fantastic job! you are quite the craftsman.
savo
May 1 2005, 01:52 PM
rpage,

chee youll give me a big head, slides real well, with 4.3 movies i slide it forward and 16.9 bring it right back.
ballast sits inside under the globe, i made the box small as posible so it was abit of a mak around making it all fit.
braket is home made but bought parts from a home mart shop, like bends and brakets then just modded it and welded them together.
thanks dude
Ill be trying to put the screen up by this week, not sure what colour ill paint the material, heard silver al is the best i will have a play and post some pictures when i get it up.

Hi Savo,
Great job!! I really like the paint job!
I'm aiming for the same sort of setup myself (ceiling mount etc) and it turns out I'm going to be using the Samsung 510N LCD so I was wondering how it stripped down? Any probs?
Cheers!
savo
May 12 2005, 01:00 AM
hello, It is a easy strip down, thought the samsung was why my screen was over heating but that problem is fixed now, if i was to buy another screen i probaly would try the benq's, $285 AUD. But the picture quality of a samsung i think is one of the best lcd's around.
cheers dude

Excellent, cheers for that.
I don't suppose you can tell me the dimensions of the actual stripped screen?
I'm probably going to have to stop and start on this project quite a bit and I'd like to start creating a frame for my lcd but don't want to leave a stripped lcd lying about for weeks.
It'd be great if you have those measurements but don't worry if its too much hassle.
cheers,
bobski
PS. Hope your still enjoying your projector!!

Sorry Bob, wouldnt really know. I think the standard lumen lab doc's would give you the approx measurements.

hm.. yeah i'm always way way disappointed with the PQ on commercial pj's. they're generally overpriced for the pq they deliver
great looking PJ savo. you got enough pics/info to post up a plog? i'd be very interested to see how you managed to get away with that box shape

im an idiot, should of taken more pictures with the build, i might have some more pictures lying around, i might have to do that.
The only thing the retail PJ have going for them is there size and all text is in focus and straight images, but when our home made PJ is in movie action nothinng even comes close, and thats why i have mine just for movies and the xbox.

Hi all,
Heres the new screen that i put up and made, its over 3 meters long, i like my pictures big
i tried to use the best fabric as i can get in canberra, i used black out cloth, but i used the suede side (cant get the plastic type anymore) as it gave me a white picture not as bright as the painted wall but i belive its just a better picture overall. Makes the picture look smoother cant see the pixels really anymore, i think the suede blurs it out abit but gives a smoother pic.
Heres some photos with my shity 2 mega camera with the picture being over 3 meters wide.
