As for the walls , its looks like you have nice hard wood floors.... I dont know about your furniture scheme, but from what I see Im picturing a deep red/cranberry color
I just used the paint bucket tool in Photoshop to so this ... thats why the jagged lines ... but some nice looking fica's on each side of the screen amd Id think you have a nice looking room

Very nice!

Beautifull results from a beautifull projector.
Tell me, what bulb did you use?
Looks like a nice keystoning job. Did you tilt the lens at all or just the front fresnel?

cheers dudes , the bulb is the double sided (double contacts) bulb that everyone is using in austraila, there not bad.
Yeah i tilted the lcd screen abit and the front frensel and made the projector lens moveable in every direction, i put springs behind each screw (3 all up).
yeah getting abit of light in the room, its the same thing if you have a tv down in my room lights most of it up, i think the floors dont help to, might have to think about a rug, but rugs cost to much

Great work man but I have a question about your video input. Are you using an extertanL vga adapter for your box games or the video card in your PC. I'm stuck with my avermedia tuner right now its not bad I use it to play games on my 17" screen. If you can please post a pic of a game screen shot maybe the car game you mentioned earlier. My pJ is going to be dedicated to movies and gaming but my present pc video card isn't worth crap.

I will be playing xbox with the hdtv adp, in widescreen mode, just have to figure out how to get it into wide screen mod after i modded my xbox?

So Savo how were you playing your xbox on the pj before I know you mentioned the racing game if you are runing it through your PC video card what type do you have? I'm very sure that I will be sacrificing quality by using my x-box or ps2 for movies but I'm mainly building it for the games and movies. Right now I'm using an avermedia5 vga box.

Absolutely awesome. Now I really can't wait to get mine finsihed (or even started!).
A question on the technical side, what is the projection angle, relative to the floor? At this stage I'm thinking of a coffee table projector, but only if I can get the angles right. I've heard 10 degrees is a practical maximum.

Jun 27 2005, 12:39 PM
mine has abit of an angle, probaly if i was to make another projector i probaly would put it into a coffee table, the only down side is that if some bumbs it, the up sides are great, you get brighter images if the image isnt coming from and angle, i lost abit of brightness and text focus mounting it on the roof but in wide screen mode it is sweet! as seen in the pictures i posted. so really up to you? good luck
to increase focus (when coming from a angle) i tiled the lcd screen abit so its more of and even angle with the front fresnel.

hello, It is a easy strip down, thought the samsung was why my screen was over heating but that problem is fixed now, if i was to buy another screen i probaly would try the benq's, $285 AUD. But the picture quality of a samsung i think is one of the best lcd's around.
Hello Savo,
I like your projector very much, and I have a question about your LCD panel. I am thinking of buying the Samsung 510N because you say it is easy to strip down, are there any issues to be extra carefull about when stripping? Furthermore you say that next time you would buy the BenQ panel, my question is; wich BenQ panel do you you mean and why do you prefer that one above the Samsung? And what kind of heat issue did you have and was it indeed due to the panel?
Sorry for so many questions but I try go get as much information as I can before starting my project.
Thank you and greetings from The Netherlands

chate, people havent had any heat problems really with the benq's and i had heat problems with my samsung but that can be due to my box being so small, so if i had to make another one i would try benq people are getting good results with them, no issues with both, benq 567 and 510n

So, your keystone correction is fixed as LCD tilting ?
Can you give some drawing, please ?
About pics : amaizing... greate room, greate projector, and greate results

PS: now i am stopped on keystone correction problem..
savo
Jun 29 2005, 01:29 PM
meaning fixed? i can open my box and keystone more if i like, the LCD is fixed but is also tilted abit, as the same directions as the front frensel lens, this is to get better focus. if the LCD wasnt tilted i would have unfocus texted up top and focus text down bottom so tilting the lcd helped this problem, for me anyway.

now move the fresnel lens on the triplet side same as the lcd, (meaning ajust it to suit your angle front fresnel). The fresnel closest to the light source can stay straight.

Simply gorgeous, would you mind sharing how you built the speakers? They look very nice. I was looking into building a set of Dayton III speakers, but yours are more of what I want to build, a floor speaker. Also do you have any detailed pictures of your modified PJ box. I plan on mounting mine on the ceiling as well and the front slope will give more head room.
Thanks

Oh my goodness man!

Your home theater is absolutely beautiful.

What are the specs on your speakers? Size of drivers, brand of drivers, price, frequency range, max db, THD, ect? How long did it take to build them, and how did you learn how to build them? Did you pick up a book on how to? Thanks in advance.

there are a lot of drawing how to build speakers... and calculators too

use this one..
http://www.mhsoft.nl/spk_calc.aspPS: google will give a lot of results about calculators and designs.
PS: also u can go to the shop - see the design, take dimensions... and at the end "copy" the whanted speakers by yourself

thanks guys!, heres some specs,
they are all 6.5 woofer/mid drivers they are PAE a cheaper version of Vifa drivers, same makers as iv been told, and the tweets are vifa tweeteres, these things sound sweet as, the rears are 2 way system and the fronts are a 3 way system, the rears sound alittle more basser than the fronts but the fronts sound sweet as for vocals or movies. The speakers sound real sharp and bassy.
I just made my own design and do it on the day of cutting the timber, just make sure your box is the rough size for those speakers ( meaning volume).
The crossovers are 3.5khz for 2 way and 3 way are 700hz and 3.5khz.
I post some pictures on the centre today and maybe the sub tomoro, waiting for the paint to dry its raining in canberra

heres some more specs,
http://www.wagner.net.au/pae/Ventura/PAE.htm they are only $40 a pop for a 6.5 driver comparded to usally about $100 a pop. I used the 18WG08.
http://www.wagner.net.au/pae/Ventura/Vifa.htm and heres the tweet i used the D19 $30 but will be upgrading later to XT25 about $75 a pop.
Took me about 3 weeks, around work and other things, if you had hoildays you could probaly do it in about 1.5 week, easy.
I got jaycar to help me with the crossovers blade thats the hardest part.
dale not really i just build things and never really take that many pictures to busy trying to rush to finish it

but theres sort of some inside pictures on some of the other pages back.
cheers everyone.

Savo, Im really impressed ..... Good work bro ....
Only question I see ...
That bed (or so it appears) seems to be too far back, especially since the rears are in front of it ....
are you going to have a couch or something that is positioned roughly underneath the projector??
savo
Jul 1 2005, 12:36 AM
steve, he he smart man you have a good eye for detail (can you see the telephone wire running the speakers aswell? only for testing

if i had my way i would get rid of the bed but need it if people stay over, im getting 3 reclining chairs that will sit up against the bed, about line with the rears and two bean bags should be enough when people come over.
Also sitting on the bed is two far back for me just abit behind the PJ or direct line with the rears is the best position i think.
p.s if anyone wants to buy a new bed ill get rid off it

cheers dude

p.s people not bad for what we get, about $2500 - $3000 PJ, speakers, screen.
If i was to spend $2500 - $3000 grand all i would get would be a shitty retail PJ or shitty retail china crap speakers (only 1 item) for that money but building your own you get all three items.
good luck everyone.

I designed, sold, and installed theater systems for people for several years at a Hi fi buisness before I decided to go back to engineering school .... Its second nature to think that way .....
I see an empty room, and theater is usually my first thought, and I immediatly start visioning placement ...
working in that industry had its perks though ..... I nabbed a $4000 Klipsch rig for $100 ..... It was a contest/promotion that Klispch offered its sales people, for every dollar worth of Klispch you sold in one month you got like certain percentage off of dealer cost (which was already about 60% below retail) ...Not the best brand for audio reproduction because of the Horns over effeciency on the high range, but great for home theater reproduction .... cant be their effecienty to portray bullets and helicopters ....

Hi blake,
the driver for the sub is a 12inc driver, running a 350rms active amp abit of a over kill for one sub was going two but just didn’t bother, I think my next door neighbor’s wouldn’t of liked it

I still have to get a good amp, its running of a powerful amp at the moment but is only a stereo amp, I think ill go with Cambridge audio, I think the 540R, they sound sweet as and have good ratings from people for sound.

I am a bit confused. In this photo i assume is the outtake slot with the dust filter and this is the underside of the projector in operating position?
So you have intake above and outtake below directly between lcd and back fresnel. Correct?
If correct what fans you have there and how many? Do you not have dust filters on the intake and top of the projector over the lcd?

That looks awesome. I have a question, in most of the other pics i notice a loss of brightness on the corners of the screen, but yours looks perfect. What causes a loss of light in the corners?
