NOTE!!!!!!!!!
The BLOODY camera makes the projected image come out as if it is much brighter in the middle ....but in real life it is pretty much even brightness

Very nice results! how big of an image are you projecting?
Dingle
Apr 15 2005, 05:54 AM
2390mm across
so at 4:3 that is 1792.5mm down
so c^2=b^2+a^2 (pythagoras)
is 2987.5mm diagonal
or 298.75cm
or 298.75cm x 0.393700787inches/cm
diagonal = 3m / 118" OF PURE GOODNESS

Very nice job.
Your projection of the simpsons looks nice and sharp.
Are they broadcasting in a lot of High Def content in New Zeland?
What are you using as the source a HTPC?

Hi, im in Christchurch, NZ

AHHAHAHA hi definition YEAH RIGHT, LOL
the day New Zealand (population, 4 million) gets hi definition TV is the day a commercial PJ costs as much as a lumenlab one.
That was just a hi definition simpsons epp that someone in the states encoded in DivX and i download it via BitTorrent.....ie its just playing off my pc.

Thanks, yeah the bowl is just a deep mixing bowl bought from k-mart it is spherical to an extent (not fully half a sphere and has a slightly flat bottom).....it works ok i guess.....but from what i find the reflector doesnt make much of a diference (no hotspoting definately..just the camera).....
do those npro ones that u guys use really make a difference to brightness??? if so how much like ~20%?
if they are really good i might invest in getting one sent to NZ.
Cheers,
Sean

amazing work, have just discovered LL by accident. I knew there would be some kiwi's building their own rig. Why pay $1500.00 at Noel Leeming when you can build one yourself. Good work mate.

Went on vacation to New Zealand about 20 years ago. Loved every last second of it. About the only souvenir I bought was an All Blacks Rugby jersey. Still have it. Tried to pass it on to one of my kids. They didn't seem too interested.

Hey sorry vidman its been a while since I looked back on this part of the forum. I've just purchased the lens kit from LL hope it gets here soon. I'm over at Auckland. Toying w/ the idea of using a folded design found glass supplier who provides front surface mirrors. Want to keep the unit as compact as possible.

Found them in the yellow pages in auckland. They call them Movie mirros for some reason. But if you describe it to the customer service person they will understand. Its about 45 dollars for a 15x15 inch mirror. I'll try to find the name, you know how it goes you write it down on your note book and you hide the notebook so well you can't bloody find it. I dont know if Sean still visits this page, but where ever your are my friend
thank you so much for the info on the UV protected panel. Would never have found it on my own. Before I forget here are some DIY tips for material gathering.
MDF - You can go to any Placemakers store and go to the hardware department and ask if they have any cover sheets. These sheets are sold at $5 dollars a sheet sometimes even cheaper. Just make sure to choose a good one and not one that has been left in the rain.
The following can be found in any decent demolition site or demolition shop :
Ventilation grills, hinges, aluminium rails for your lenses and if your lucky and the demo man is your friend you can even get a jar full of screws for a princely sum of $10 dollars for the lot.
Paint : If your really on a budget like yours truly. Again either placemakers or bunnings at their paint department they will have what is called "Mistints" or returns these cans at either a gallon or 4 gallon cans are sold at heavily discounted prices. If you want to you can ask the paint specialist to tint the paint black. You might get charged maybe $10.00 bucks for the tint. But it sure beats buying a new can of paint.
Thats my tip for the day and if you folks know of any other material saving tips please post and let everyone else benefit from your knowledge!

Thanks for the tips!! I think every NZ'der would be on a budget, I dont think you can get as bad as us aye!! Ive been trying to a PJ for years now and still nowhere near even starting one!
You havent got any other tips have you?
Ive been looking for ballasts and bulbs, but I'm starting to think that the best bet would be to get the setup from lumenlab.
Cheers,
Mark
