Full Version: converting standard PJ to folded

Im in the process of making my second PJ, and when its complete I would like to be able to simply "CONVERT" my existing PJ

The PJ I have now, is straight out of the guide, with the standard focus box. I would like to be able to somehow mount a mirror to the front of the box, and reflect the projection beam, so that I could make the PJ sit sideways on a shelf that I have in a small room.

I assume the mirror would have to be at roughly 45 degree angle in reference to the projection lense ....

Here is a crude Autocad drawing of what I mean .....

Should work, this is what I'm doing in my vertical design, using the triplet/FS mirror off of an OHP.

You might need to reposition your LCD, but I could be wrong about that...

That is what I was doing to reverse the image to use my pj in rear projection. It will change the image left to right.

yeah, I thought of the image reversal afterhand ..... that completly sucks ... because I dont know how to flip back other than flip the LCD, but that puts my electronics in the hot end ..... something im not going to do .....

You could try 2 mirrors.....

you cant flip your lcd in the box and remount the electronics on the same end? the fcc should fold both ways?
tj101
How about a heat shield over the electronics? As long as you have good fans and airflow, shouldn't it keep the heat at acceptable levels?

Not sure if you are still pursuing this idea, but if you are using a computer to drive the projector you may be able to set the preferences on your video driver to flip the image. If you have an invidia card the drivers will do this.

Cheers,

You can also flip (and rotate) the image with a ati card (:

there's also a program called UltraMon which lets you mirror your display horizontally and vertically as long as the display you want to mirror is set up as your secondary display. I've used it, and it works. VLC will also let you flip and rotate your display but that only works when your watching a movie.

So does putting the mirror on the outside like an OHP work? Is there to much light spill?

Basically im thinking of this route so i can buy a premade box and put a simple mirror infront. Nice easy way to a diy projector.

Thanks.

It shouldn't leak too much if it is a nuisance you could put a hood on it to block any leakage... I'd be more concerned that the part of the box in front of the mirror would block light to the bottom of the screen, you might have to angle the box toward the screen and then angle the mirror back and make sure you get a first surface mirror so you don't get any ghosting.

any updates on this?

UltraMon is the greatest program in the world for dual screens especially the taskbar smile.gif
