These look like they should work OK.
Not sure how they get 3d information from a 2d image.??
I've used these same glasses in video games and they are very impressive if you can keep the frame rates high. The software gets the info from the openGL information that's set to the card. in normal video /TV this is not present so I'm a bit skeptical as to the final result on a DVD movie.

They'd do some kewl stuff on an XBox game and a 10' screen. smile.gif

I have something similar for my PC. The results are VERY cool, but the technology will not work with LCD.

It relies on stable refresh rates produced by CRTs to sync "shuttering" of the 3D lenses, LCD monitors do not have this stable refresh rate.

Therefore 3D shutter glasses cannot be used with LCD screens.

Most LCD's have stable analouge 60hz referesh rates. The glasses are synct to the monitor/video card so that the shutters close on que. I can see it not working with DVI but are analouge LCD's also out?

It relies on a stable input, but grey->grey refresh rates are usually above the 16.66ms refresh rate that allows for a perfect 60hz image.

IMO, it would probably work even so.

From reading about 3D shutter technology for 3 years, I have always read that this technology will not work with LCDs, but have never heard a first hand account of someone trying it.

If someone was willing to buy this product (its very legit) and wouldn't mind using it on their CRT TV anyway if the LCD didn't work, we would know for sure.

When I get my LCD for the projector, I will try to remember to hook it up to my PC and try the glasses with it.
The 3D shutter technology on my PC glasses is identical to this home TV product.

I have some 3d glass's at work. The reason they are not used with LCD's is the max refresh rate is 60-75mhz. In order for you not to get a blinding headache from useing them, they request a refresh rate of at least 120mhz. That way each shuter in the glasses pulse's at 60mhz. When you only have 60 to start with each eye will see a 30mhz refresh rate, followed by eye strain/vomiting. Try setting your crt to 30mhz if you don't beleve me. smile.gif

Update:
I got my CMV 520d, and tried the shutter glasses with it. It doesn't work at all.
When trying the Nvidia test image, the entire left shutter remains black, while the right one blinks erratically.

When trying to view a 3D JPG (JPS), the entire LCD screen just goes blank.

Chad, I can almost guess that you didn't buy the glasses specifically designed for LCDs. You _cannot_ use the glasses for CRT monitors with _any_ LCD because the timing is different. You have to buy specialized glasses from somewhere like edimensional. Example:

Hey dudes. Recent reports seem to be hinting that nintendo's next video game system, the Nintendo Revolution, will have a built in 3D display system. Supposedly a 3d projector. Cool no? Anyone know how a 3d projector works?

Coincidentally I emailed edimensional not long ago and asked if their system worked with lcds. They said yes so long as you have a high enough refresh rate. I asked what was a high enough refresh rate. I think they said 75 hz (16 ms response) at least.

Ok heres what he said: "We recommend dimming the lights if you have a low refresh rate to reduce flicker. 70 Hz is generally acceptable"

TriDef media player and DVD player do it in real time directly by software and HDTV suppourted.

Don't buy it. You cant' make 2d data into 3d data without some heavy post processing. Shit they can only do that by hand in a studio using production software so don't be fooled. Games and 3d apps will work to some degree but they have to support opengl or directx. Also unless you can get a high quality lcd don't waste your time on glasses. An lcd dispay with a refresh rate of 60 would get that cut in half becuase it has to alternate between the right and left images meaning that it would drop to 30hz per eye and that would look like utter crap. In order to maintain a descent image you need to use something that's going to refresh on the order of 100hz good luck finding a lcd that does that. Thats why i still use my "crappy" 21" crts never understood why every one uses lcds nowadays.

thats not necesarily true.
I was just recently privy to witness a display we are about to use in a new proto build at my job taht does 3-d from 2-d material EXTREMELY well. It does it on its own with no CPU help from our brainbox.
The drivers from ATI work really well and I havent seen issues running this on ATI 9800s with ease.

3-d from 2-d looks great on this and I will admit 3-d source material is better but the 2-d is GREAT.
