and not having to use a computer. can' wait to see more. all the best, tony.

Whats the current size of your 4:3 projected image (diagonal of course)?
What about 16:9?
Looks great... How much can you tell in the screendoor of the pixels?

Mar 27 2004, 02:28 PM
Thanks

I didn't mark off the 16:9 so I'm not sure of the size. The 4:3 was right about at 10.5 feet or 126 inches. The projectors lens was about 10-11 feet from the wall.
I actually didn't see any screen door at all. The fresnels are framed with a wooden frame and a 1" cut out on the bottom. They are about 5mm apart; the LCD in this test was about 10-15mm in front of the fresnels.
I found the best way to cut the lens hole was to set everything up (minus the LCD) and find the focus point. Then mark that as the center for the hole saw. I was leery of cutting the lens hole because I'm using the same idea a few others are using with the drawer idea and didn't want to have to make that over again from a bad lens hole.
My box design got a little screwed by 1000bulbs... I ended up canceling the potted ballast order after waiting over 2 months just on that one part! I found a replacement on eBay, but it turned out to be 1/2" too wide to fit in the electronics area. So let's just say this beast is going to weigh somewhere in the neighborhood of 70-90pounds... lol It was only going to have one extra area, but now has two and MDF is very heavy. I'll get some pictures up sometime soon.

You should try moving mine. 50" high, 30" deep, and 24" wide. It needed 3 sheets of MDF to complete. Now I just need to bring a crane in to move it around.

Looking very good! I am thinking of using this LCD or the LTM1555.
Did you find a good price on your LCD?
Cheers,

Norlander,
I bought mine @
AV Deal DepotHe raised the price twice since I ordered from him. I bought mine for around 540-ish shipping included. His eBay auctions might be less.

I went to pricewatch.com and found one store selling the LTN1565 [not the 1555], and the pricewatch price was $517 after shipping. If you browse the store and find it, it was like $650, so you need to follow the link off pricewatch to get the advertized price.

Well I've started to build another box, rather then build another case around the ballast. I'm also building a light engine box, but i think I have a different bulb then most you guys. Is the Eye bulb everyone is using close to 11" or maybe even 11.5" long?? (Because mine is

lol...)
I should be getting the engine done this weekend, and the box sometime in the next two weeks or so. *Waiting on quite Fans* The glass, DC power supply and speaker carpet are coming in today. I'll keep everyone posted.

batlin
Mar 31 2004, 08:11 PM
oops! lol The lamp I have is over 11" long, but it is the same type... weird. Oh well already have the frame built for the lightbox. Maybe 1000bulbs messed up the order once again. (i wouldn't doubt it) Although it works great
batlin
Mar 31 2004, 08:26 PM
Ya, they screwed it up...
I just checked on the site and it looks like they sent me either " M400X/U (EYE) " or " M400SX/BT37/HOR (EYE) " instead of " M400SX/BT28/HOR (EYE) ". It looks like they will all work horizontal mounted, but the length is increased and the lumens are slightly decreased on the universal mount bulb. That company is sooo lame...

Man, Batlin, I'm in the same boat. When I opened the box w/ my EYE bulb in it, it was a freakin' whopper. Darn now 11 1/2". I ordered the M400SX/BT28/HOR (EYE) from 1000 bulbs and that's what I got. I saw on the forums about a low profile or something, maybe that's what I should have got. I did see though that the EYE specs. say that its 8" not including the little threaded metal base part.
Somebody set me straight, please. I'm confused

Apr 1 2004, 12:15 AM
Yes about 8" from top of lamp to silver part. If you have the wrong one send it back and get a refund. I have the lamp we need sitting right here waiting for a new home.
On the neck of the lamp it will say M400 SX/HOR/BT28 If it says something else you have the wrong one.

I would be more concerned that the 12,000 hour life is half of what it was supposed to be, rather than its size needing to be taken into account. . .
joecnc2006
Apr 1 2004, 06:23 AM
LOL do you know that 12,000 hrs is 500 days if running 24/7 or 1.40 years?
I think at $14.00 US and availably locally here is well worth it to get a smaller bulb with the same specs.
yea 14.00 a year is not bad at all...
Look at BrainChilds post he said that mounting the bulb horz. will yeald better results and that what i wanted to do with this smaller bulb.

mccamp82, yes seemd to be the exact same bulb except ur specs say 20,000 hrs.... only time will tell but they are 1/3 the cost of the eye bulb and work just as well.
I may just replace the bulb every 3 months for $14.00 just for the heck of it just to have new and bightest bulb.

Actually not quite as well. Look at the mean lumens. This is why I specify the EYE lamp. You'll be surprised at how fast you'll hit the 'mean' lumen output.

Apr 1 2004, 04:05 PM
Well I'd try to get a refund, but I've already started with the 11.5" bulb. It looks like the one i ordered is the same as BirdMan[SS]. The "M400SX/BT28/HOR (EYE)"... I think somebody at 1000bulbs is pulling the wrong bulb. It even says on the description around 8" in length. No biggie though, I'll just have a few inches wider box. I'd send it back if I hadn't started building the new box. *sigh*... That company is so bass aackwards.

The mean lumen for my bulb (Shown above) is 24,000 which is the same as the large 12"
are you saying it might not be enought??

Joe
The mean lumens on the EYE BT28 is 30,000 and the starting lumens are close to 40,000. It is a premium high output lamp. Within a few hundred hours the lamps will be getting close to their mean, and your lamp will be producing six thousand less lumens. In my opinion that's a lot of light lost.
I would suggest you keep using the lamp you have and upgrade a little later.

Lamps burn out because: Consumption of the metal halide salts in the arc tube. Gas pressure inside the quartz tube may decrease. Contaminates during manufacturing take their toll over time.

Yeah, actually when I went to Sylvannia when I worked as an electrician, they told me that they actually use overhead lamps last about 15 years to go out with continuous use and that they aren't on the market, sylvannia just makes them only for testing in their own buildings. They were bright too!!
I wish I could have one of those... Never have to change the bulb... That's cool!!

No kidding, after thinking about it though, the bulbs migh last 15 years but turning them on and off is what decreases the life so much.
