If you could somehow create individual 'product review' pages, where people could add their own comments, it would be real nice.

I started a thread today looking for 15" monitor suggestions...which has obviously been asked probably 100 times befor. The problem is that when you go looking through threads with 5+ pages all with different monitor suggestions, it get's kind of confusing. The majorty of suggestions are outside the product review directory.

If you could just go to an LCD listing page, and click CMV CT-520D, and have it's compatability, specs, links to required FCCs, reviews from everybody who used it, that would extremely helpful. It would probably cut down on a lot of repeated threads too.

Interesting idea.

I would be interested in this as well, it would save a lot of searching. I'm torn between two right now, the CMV 520D and the Benq that a lot of people use. I know they are both great LCDs, but details and reviews in one place would help a lot.

For instance I know many folks (I have read here at least) that used the CMV 520D have reported no FFC issues with the boards themselves, but the connections to the controls (on/off, etc) are too short to mount them on the side of the box without modification.

Another thing that would help a lot would be reports of dead pixels on delivery, and even what stores offer what kind of dead pixel guarantee. I'm a bit afraid of the CMV-520D because of many stores 5 or 8 dead pixel warranty, if I could pay 10-20 bucks for a 0 dead pixel guarantee I would do it. I know at least one person recently recived a 520D with a dead pixel in a bad spot.

Information of this sort would help me greatly.

That does sound like a good idea that may clear up some of the threads. Not to be picky, but they are FFC's, not FCC's.

Ok, first how hard is this to modify? ( the connections to the controls (on/off, etc) are too short to mount them on the side of the box without modification)

Second, is the dead pixel problem a real threat, whats the average appearance of dead pixels on this monitor? Just need to know before I buy. Thanks all.

http://www.mamboserver.com would be the perfect solution.

It's an open source CMS (content management solution) that runs on IIS and Linux with PHP and MySQL (probably similar to this web server's setup)

At http://www.mamboportal.com you can get a component called AkoComment which allows guests to post comments for each article created.

Skinning the site is easy too, I have done 10-20 myself for personal and professional setups.

You could run the codebase in the directory and use the existing MySQL instance to avoid additional hosting expenditure as well.

I could babble forever but PM me if anyone needs more info.

How many cooks can boil a stew?

A little off topic, but sometimes it's challenging to find information from the forums that you know you've seen a few times but can't reference it and isn't pinned.. In my opinion, organization of content could be improved and in a way that promotes community support without adding the burden of maintainance (Brainy doesn't have time to police everyone!)

Working with web projects in the past, I have seen great success with clients that had a growing community supported forum suppliment their main content with a "Wiki" type application. I bet there's some good open source project that has a definable the process for approving new/current/past content in a Wiki style.

It seems like a fairly easy way to do this is to create another page like the top page of the forum. Another heading like "the guide" "intelligent video ..." "help" could be created entitled Monitors. Then under that page there could be another set of folders named for each of the major monitors or brands. Then all of the individual threads like vroom's "512n jump right in" thread could be put under the brand or monitor name sub forum.
(I am sure the moderators needed me to elaborate on what they should name and how they should organize the folders/forum. tongue.gif )
