Hello all!

Brand spanking new member here. Been lurking for about a year now, and my interest in the DIY scene is finally at critical mass. Right now I'm researching parts & techniques... the thing I'm most concerned of with this project is working with electricity. I've built computers, wired stereos, but never 120V. Doing a lot of safety research and enlisting a friend to get me up to speed.

I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions throughout the process, but it's very encouraging to see what a helpful community you've built here.

Here are a couple of starters:

1) Once a monitor is stripped, is there any risk in plugging the power right back into the wall to make sure it's still functioning properly? (pre-mounted, that is)

2) Worst case scenario -- if there was an electrical fault with the projector (or a surge), is there any risk of the projector frying whatever video source is plugged into the VGA port (as in my newly built computer)? Does the fuse/cicuit breaker prevent this?

I'm sourcing out a good LCD now. Can't wait to get started!

1: No problem as long as nothing is shorted etc.
2: EXTREMELY unlikely.

Wow... isn't it cool when your first post to a new message board is answered by "The One." Well, my monitor's on the way (that is, if I bought from a reliable eBay-er).

One question about the Lumenlab store wiring kit -- it's a nice clean power socket and switch (which is a good thing in case anyone trips on the cord). How do you make connections to the other side? Would you need to solder onto the exposed pins, or does it come with those nice clean slide-on connections?

Looking forward to ordering the rest of the gear once my monitor gets here!

It's a quick connector hook up, but you'd have to mod the DPST switch if you want to do auto-shutdown. I'll be posting a small tutorial on this soon.
