Has anyone tried watching Spy Kids 3D on their pj? Drove me nuts on my tv, but it was fine on my computer monitor. Is it good on a projected image?

Just curious...it seems like this would be a good flick to watch on a large screen at home. smile.gif

well... i havent yet, but 3d will be probably one of the first things i do once i get my system together and running. i enjoy all things 3d, movies, games, or even still photos.

i myself have seen spy kids 3d on a televison, but never had the chance to see it on my computer because i had a bad dvd player in my pc that needed replacing. i have a computer animated movie called santa vs. the snowman that i bought recently and have watched on both a tv and a monitor. and youre right about it being much better on a monitor.

my theory is it should work well (im hoping anyway). afterall, we are still projecting an image thats more than double the resolution of a standard tv keep in mind. perhaps some color adjustment may be needed for anaglyph setups, but it shouldnt be too tough to work out im sure.

my setup when im done with everything will consist of two identical projectors. each polarized properly for use with the 'grey theme park glasses'. this way ill be able to play games in 3d as well without the funky red/blue colorization on images.
nvidia has drivers available for their cards which can utilize this type and pretty much any other 3d setup available, but they only work with nvidia based gpu's.

right now i have the electronic glasses EDimensional sell on their website, and i play games in 3d on my 19 inch crt. its awesome to use them, but id like to go 8'+ screen size, and unfortunatley they wont be compatible with my projector. so the next best option will be the dual polarized pj setup mentioned above.

anyway, im starting construction on my box some time this week, hopefully ill put together a plog if i get a camera to use. either way, 3d will be top on my list upon completing my pj, so ill definetley let you know how it works with an anaglyph film! cool.gif

Hats off to someone willing to try it wink.gif

Some things you'll need to pay special attention to:

The screen needs to preserve the polarity somewhat - this is a difficult thing for something that has to refract/distribute the light evenly.

Unlike DLP projectors(with which a DIY approach to this has been verified), the light output of an LCD is already mostly polarized already - you'll need to have some way of correcting this, which will probably involve either some kind of specialized optical film to twist the light, using your own polarizing film instead of the LCD's polarizing film, or going through one of several different ways to effectively rotate one LCD's film 90 degrees, which involves cutting off extra pixels beyond a square.

If you're not too concerned with the lifetime of your lamp, you could also use the output of one lamp, with projectors rotated 90 degrees relative to this, to light both projectors(obviously with the assistance of mirrors, with the big lenses we use).

The light from both projectors will have to appear to come from as close together as possible(which probably means mirrors), and alignment will be a total bitch with a high res display.

If you go with using a square section of each screen, there are anamorphic prisms that you can use to make the screen take on a more comforting 4:3 aspect ratio.

I have not watched any 3D movies but I have viewed the 3D images coming back from Opportunity and Spirit. All I can say is WOW - you are on Mars. Download the largest images and view them with the 50's 3D glasses - I assure you, you will be absolutely blown away. Check them out on a desk top monitor and you will certainly DL them for the PJ

Forget all you have seen before, anagliph destroy colour and donīt looks deep well.
Dual proyection is the solution.
Movies, photo, gaming all in 3D and 2d with double light.
