ATI's Video 101 White Paper : Ever wonder just what is all involved when it comes to showing video on your computer when it was never intended to be shown on a computer monitor? ATI gives no nonsense answers to many basic questions.

few questions as I read that:

1. Which is better......720P@1280 or 1080i@1920?

2. Since HDTV is required to be 16:9 ratio, if I use a 17" @4:3 ratio, will i have black bars or will it "zoom" causing some of the video not to show? Example above using say a digtal cable box inputing to the S-Video input on an ATI X850.

(edit) reading further it apears that it scales it to letterbox (with the black bars). I'll leave the question up for FAQ's.

3. Is digital cable 12 bit or 24 bit?

4. HDMI connection better? I'll look for monitors that connect this way, but i'll prolly have no luck since you'll need a video card that has it as well. We'll see.

Came across this while looking for a LCD 101

70,000:1 contrast ratio!?

On that note, is the contrast ratio controlled by light control? If so why do we look for monitors with higher contrast ratio....specially since we arent using the backlight?

Sorry for my ignorance with some of these questions. Thought I would post them to help answer someone elses questions.
