I was curious to know if anyone else who completed their project /w great results has replaced their monitor with their projector and now use it as their primary means to browse the web, read email etc.?

If so and use the couch as your primary sitting location, what sort of setup do you use for keyboard / mouse while sitting on the couch? First thing that comes to my mind is some sort of breakfast in bed contraption..

Granted I think I will only watch movies if I ever get the results I am hoping for and always use my laptop if I need to browse the web. Just wondering what others are doing.

I can answer somewhat. I have a combo setup. I am preparing to use my projector as my main unit, so I have parts suited for the task. Specifically for the video portion of the projector, I have an ATI All-In-Wonder card that came with the Remote Wonder II. I would recommend this remote to anyone with a dvd player or tv capture card.

I also have a wireless keyboard and optical mouse. The particular one I have has a range of 30 feet, which is plenty for my house, has a battery charger built-in to the wireless ps2 connector box, and has all the stuff like internet keys.

If you go with a wireless keyboard/mouse combo, you will probably want to get a lap desk. You can usually find one in book stores.

laugh.gif Really!? I might change my mind about replacing the monitor after I see the finished results of my labor. If anyone ends up with one of those funny looking desks, post some pictures. Still looks nutty tongue.gif

what make and model are your mouse and kb? All I seem to find is 3 or 6 foot ranges.

I plan on getting a bluetooth setup. I found these on ebay, and they look like a really good deal compared to what the stores are selling them for--
ebay bluetooth optical desktop

This includes a keyboard, optical mouse, and the bluetooth transmitter/receiver (I don't know if the keyboard transmits to base station or vice versa). The range is said to be about 10 meters for bluetooth devices.

Hope this helps.

It's not a bad deal, but Logitech makes much better quality stuff than Microsoft.

Yeah, and at the moment, you can get an RF MX700 + wireless keyboard combo for $50: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.as...8&enterthread=y

The mx700 was the first wireless mouse that was said to be responsive enough for FPS games. If only they hadn't come out with the MX1000 (which uses an extremely efficient laser for lower power consumption + better tracking), I would have snapped this up in a second.

Lite-on made a decent budget wireless keyboard with a built-in mouse/joystick. For $25 shipped you got a wireless keyboard with >25' range, a quirky but workable mouse built-in, I have one and like it a lot. I'd rate the keyboard itself a 7/10 but i'd rate it 8/10 overall due to its low price, good range and its ibm-type joystick (cursor speeds up with more pressure). Its obviously not the best but its a pretty good all-in-one solution imho. Battery usage is very low (4-8 months depending on usage). Note i've never tried to game using the joystick as i highly doubted it would work well.

Lite-on made 3-4 variations of it and ebay is currently the only place i could find them:

Note: the pointer/joystick is in the top right hand corner of the keyboard.

Sorry I haven't been here to answer. I got mine from A4Tech. I can vouch for the keyboard/mouse combo. The overall setup has been great. You can see them here:
