Just curious but out of the thousands of movies out there, why Fifth Element for projector results? I didnt know if there was a scientific resoning behind this or it is the movie Brainchild had sitting on top his pile of movies when he fired up his first projector.

There are just several movies that are classics for projector people.
They're generally well shot, have good to excessive color, etc.
Gladiator, Finding Nemo, Fifth element, Shrek, and of the LOTR movies are all standard fare.
The fifth element shot of Leeloo's face on the ground has copious gritty detail, skintones (which human eyes are instinctually good at resolving), and bright colors in the form of her hair. Any problem with the projector is likely to show in a shot with very diverse elements like that.
And, it's milla jovovich

She was not on the ground in that shot.
She's on the ledge of a building tens of stories up.
The DVD has incredible visuals, and the colors simply jump out at you. I think that's why most people like to use it to show off their projector.

Yeah, movies like saving private ryan and stuff wouldnt be too exciting because they have a lot of color removed for effect. Using cartoons to show color and contrast is usually a good thing.

before checking out other projects online and stuff... I always chose The 5th Element for my own personal screen tests too. It's just a natural choice for high contrast, bright colors and fast movement.
and yeah Leeloo

not to mention that 5th element is one of the few movies that was released in WMV HD.

The way I got it was through a torrent site, which is now dead. But believe me, the movie looks stunning in 720p! However the wmv file is over 4GB in size and you can only play it on your computer.

That version was upscaled from the DVD 480P or capped from a HDTV broadcast (which was also likely upscaled). There is no original HD format WMV of the Fifth Element.

I know this isn't exactly on-topic, but I found an awesome screensaver for a projector (or even a regular screen) is
Particle Fire made by
LongBow Digital Arts. Don't be fooled by the screenshots. Believe me that it must be seen to appreciate it. Also, I particularly prefer the original to v2, but that's a matter of choice. Try both and let me know if this isn't a worthy screensaver for our PJ's.

I held off buying the Ultimate edition because I wasn't sure if the picture quality was any different from the R1 Superbit edition. Anyone know? There's a website that did a comparison of all the versions of the 5th Element, but it was written before the Ultimate edition came out. You'd be surprised how much each release varies in quality. Even the Superbit editions. Right now the one to get is the original R1 Superbit edition, though R3 comes in a close second. I'd like to find out where the Ultimate edition stands.

Definately going to have to upgrade to the Superbit.

The Ultimate Edition is also Superbit. My assumption is that it's the same transfer as the old Superbit with the second disc of extras.

Imagine if there was a speacial DVD player that had two drives. One for the Movie disk and one for the Audio disk.
The movie disk would be fully uncomressed video and the audio disk would be fully uncompressed 7.1 channel audio
7GB for video and 7GB for audio.
Or DVD player that has both the roms in one drive but one is upside down and its actually 2 disks on one but one side has the audio and one side has the video
