I'd be careful with the LCD dismantled like that. Static can be deadly to LCDs.

A+++++ love the birch ply, i used a cmv 529a too, hated the short ass "fcc".....too lazy to buy the extension so i gotta open the damn case to change its settings.

Awesome... When I build my next PJ I am gonna have to do something like that.

Looks great. Just make sure you have a way to stop light from passing by your LCD anywhere but through it. It look like your formica top will not seal the top and bottom of the LCD holder. I assume you already have plans for this. Jus tthought I would mention it.

I'm really digging the curved look...is the top going to be flat like the bottom? Thumbs up! Can't wait to see the finished product.
tmproff
Mar 7 2005, 04:46 AM
The top and the bottom will be identical other than the bottom will have a hole for the cables and a vent for incomming air.

Mar 7 2005, 04:52 AM
when I first looked, I thought that the bottom was flat...I now see that is bowed just like the sides...when you do the top, how do you plan to keep it curved and accessible at the same time?

Yes put the LCD in one of these, you can get them at any home improvement stores to sears....

I keep mine sandwiched between the two fresnels in their protective covering. And I keep it in the house away from my build

nice job tmproff,
Have you tried to turn your lcd on???I only ask this because I am using the same lcd in a on going effort in my project and the controller board should be upside down...atleast on my and alot of the other users of this lcd...

Yes, just a few posts up, someone noticed that. I turned it on last night to make sure it survived being mounted

I will switch it around tonight!

How big is the slit for the lcd's ffcs to pass through the frame?
tmproff
Mar 10 2005, 12:59 PM
There is no slit for the FFC's. All of the electronics ride on the top of the frame. I see where you are going with this and I think it's a good idea. I was thinking about doing it if I can make the FFC's reach. My problem right now is that my front fresnel is hitting the electronics . If I could put the electronics on the bottom of the frame, there would be much more room. to place them on the bottom, I'd have to cut a hole. I am seriously thinking about buying some extensions.

Looking good! I love the curved design. Is that a soup ladle you're using for a reflector? Can't wait for some pics.

Mar 10 2005, 02:04 PM
It's the IKEA napkin holder, you can buy it off this site.

How did you determine the lamp placement from the reflector? is it just 1/2 the diameter?

Tmproff, sorry if this may be a stupid question, but I have the same monitor, or close to it, and I am wondering why in some of your earlier posts the circuitry is facing up and on these pictures they are facing down. Was the LCD placed wrong in the earlier pics? Which way is the correct way?
tmproff
Mar 11 2005, 02:38 PM
Yep, it was facing the wrong way in the older pictures

I knew I had a 50/50 chance of it being wrong! Thankfully, it doesnt take long to switch it around.

Will you be floor mounting your projector. The keystone looks like it is designed to face up.
tmproff
Mar 11 2005, 11:43 PM
Yes, I will be mounting it on a base that holds my HTPC and my audio receiver.

Mar 12 2005, 09:00 PM
I really like the way you have setup the mounts for the fresnel lenses.
I wanted to do something like that, but was just too impatient.
If I ever decide to do it again, that's probably the route I will take.
Very nice construction on the box!

Good stuff and very clean. What are you using to power the evercools(i.e. ac/dc adaptor). I currently have 2 artic fans in my pj and they are just to loud and I am tempted to just switch them with evercool fans.

I am using my HTPC's power supply to run them along with a controller that will monitor the temperature of my lamp and LCD. You can read about the controller I purchased
HEREI stained my enclosure and started to varnish it today. It's getting very close to showtime!

Hey could you tell me where you bought your fans? The first one I ordered was supposed to be black but when it came it was transparent blue and is now dead.

It was a link off this website. I think there is a sticky thread in one of the forums that's dedicated to fans that has a link.
