Is the little PCB with the buttons and the speakers necessary? I think I broke one of the wires when I was trying to plug it in. The power light goes blue for 1/2 a second and then goes orangeas long as the button is depressed. Otherwise nothing happens.

it is probably recquired ... resolder the wire, and include that control board in your PJ

I don't think I can resolder something that small... the Samsung worked w/o it.
The cable is sheathed in metal and the pin that seems to be broken is seems to be connected to the sheath. On a hunch I touched the sheath with the ground where a screw hold in the motherboard and the yellow light came on as if it were in low power mode, but the monitor wouldn't turn on.

Does anyone know where I could get another cable? It's just under a 1/2 wide and has 18 pins. Where's the guy that works in an LCD repair center?

that is me ...... Or at least I am one of them ..... if there is anyone else. I dont work there anymore, but I worked there in the past.

First off, you shouldnt connect anything to ground that you arent sure of it supposing to go there. that wire very well may hold voltage or something and you shorted it out by doing that.

if you cant resolder the wire to the board directly, can you replace the wire with a completly new wire??

It would be helpfull to show some pics

Here's an ultrahigh res pic of the cable

Notice on the right the wire extends from the sheath to the pin. It looked broken there.
Would the FFC extension kit with 18 pins from lumenlab work here?

WHoa....

Have some etiquette man.....otherwise people will get  and you wont get any answers unsure.gif then you will have to lay low ph34r.gif .

You are probably the only person within 5 squar miles of your house that has even heard of lumenlab.....the forums arent so busy that you will get multiple replies to your question in a few hours...give it time, give it days.

Now....we are also not mind readers....

Post:
1.) Monitor type

It sounds like one of the CMV flavors based on that FFC and the sx you are describing....

I've found these monitors to be very picky with the input signal that triggers them to turn on....Make sure your source is up and running (and if laptop, make sure the vga port is active). verify this on a working monitor. Then plug the VGA cable from computer into your lcd....then plug LCD into wall, and push power button.

Then tell us what happens.

It is unlikely that the control board is needed for operation of the monitor except to turn on and off....(i havent tested this myself, but can) and if you are getting power to the LED, it is even more unlikely that you broke the ground strip.

Huh, could have sworn I mentioned that it was a CMV 520D. I've tried every configuration. Won't work.
Lumenlab has an 18 pin FFC extension kit. Would that work?

it will work but i really dont think there is anything wrong with your cable. In the picture you posted it looks absolutely fine, and I have that monitor....that FFC is very robust and very well encased in thick aluminum foil. I have mine folded like oragmi with no problems.

I suspect you dont have it seated properly OR you may have it installed incorrectly. Make sure the silver exposed leads are facing the contacts, make sure it is installed prefectly perpendicular to the connector, and make sure when you close the connector the cable remains seated.

If you are seeing the LED, it is very unlikely that the cable is broken....it is suppling POWER and at least a signal to the LED to allow it to switch modes (from blue to orange to yellow).....I really think you are barking up the wrong tree.....

DOHH
AH MAN. You were right. I was wrong. I can't beleive I plugged the thing in upside down. I thought I had tried flipping it, maybe I flipped the cable twice or something.

Though I still say the thing doesn't look right-if you had depth perception you'd see a stray lead.

I can't beleive I've been cursing over this for the past week because I put the cable in the wrong way.

But it is essential to function-wouldn't work until it was inserted properly.

What a relief, now I can finish this tremendously overbudget replacement television.

Thanks jcrack and the rest for posting.
