Lexan (aka polycarbonate) is a super-plastic used in lab equipment, CDs, bulletproof windows, etc. The main use one would have for sheet lexan at Home Depot is to replace or make unbreakable windows. Its downside is that it becomes yellow + brittle over time with exposure to UV. Windows get a lot of UV from the sun. So they spray lexan with a UV-absorbing/reflecting coating on one side. That coating is what we use.
Tempered glass + Lumenlab UV filters would most likely work just as well if not better.
