Hello Everyone,

I am in the process of building a Projector unit. In my home, I have a wireless network setup. And I thought it would sure be nice, to be able to bring my laptop in the house, connect to the wireless network, and then broadcast my laptop screen on my projector without having to plug a monitor cable from my laptop to the projector. Any ideas of how this my be possible? The video signal would be going through a wireless network. I would use DLink's Extreme G protocal, which says it can go up to 100 mbps. Any ideas?

Theoretically this would be entirely possible. However, that being said, I haven’t heard of any equipment on the current market which could really accomplish what is it you are trying to do. I think your best bet would be to use your existing wireless connection to send video to your HTPC (if you have one) and have the HTPC hooked up to the projector.

It is possible and there are a couple of units out there that do wireless media serving. However, you'll find far more wireless audio right now because even the 11g bandwidth makes wireless video of any reasonable resolution choppy at best. Sony has a wireless lcd TV system but it is only sending typical low res TV to a small screen. Compare that to even DVD resolution and that 100mb/sec bandwidth starts getting cramped fast.

The one unit I'm keeping my eye on is from D-link. Here is the info...

I have yet to hear word on how well it works over what distances/signal strengths and with other traffic on the network.

There are lots of efforts though to limit the capability of these units so that you can't broadcast copy righted material such as DVDs so it may not be of much use anyway...

Thanks for the help guys. That D-link might look promising smile.gif . For right now, I am probably going to setup my laptop with XP Professional, and then I will be able to do a remote access to it from my HTPC. I have used remote access before on a LAN. I doubt I will be able to play any DVD's or anything, but I will be able to surf the internet and type in Word. Thanks again for the help!!

Why not just build a HTPC ? or make a extension for your current vga cable by buying a small spare one and then matching the colors with a CAT5 Cable quick cheap and easy extension aslong as you have some general knowledge smile.gif

Using Linux, you can set your display to any computer on the network. For example on my tv app TVTime, I can tell it to display on one of my other linux boxes by passing it an argument at startup.

Actually I just purchased an Epson projector for my scool which has a trick wireless receiver in it that allows you to transmit video from a wireless laptop/pc to the projector. You do have to install software on your pc tho. Will try to test this out, and let you know.
