I do have 1 piece of tempered glass, the rear fresnel sits ontop of it,booth are in the rear frame.I was worried about warping the fres, but that hasn't happened,(yet!)

ok, no wonder i only see three stacks. i guess that proves your cooling method works well.

Just playing with ideas today,I was thinking of making a Samurai Lightgate/box.
I was thinking of something like this:

Any glaring problems that anyone can see???
I hope it makes sense!! biggrin.gif

I am also looking at a swiveling triplet assembly to raise and lower the projected image. smile.gif

Thats the beauty of the vertical design. It leaves more options open for design. I like it. I found a supplier of optically nuetral glass that you could use. No too expensive. The port you need it actually only 2.5 x 3 inches, depending on how close the bulb is to the port.

Thanks for the thumbs up,Samurai,That glass sounds good,I will see if I can find some in the UK.
I didnt realise the port could be quite that small! Wow.

That looks like the go. Do you have enough room to center the globe with that orientation?

I must say I've thought about this while planning my projector, but I'm not sure about how tilting the triplet would effect the optics, I suspect you might be able to get away with a few degrees before losing brightness and image clarity.

I'd be very interested in your results if you end up try it.

When I was calculating the apeture for the Lightgate ( I did it all by pen, paper and ruler at true size...)I used the bulb set back from the apeture of the gate by 2.25 inches. Based on the spread of the theoretical "cone", I came up with that to provide coverage to a 15 inch lcd. Then I oversized it by a few square inches. Im working on the iris tonight I think. I had to take last night off..

I've been mulling this over for a while now,and I have come to the conclusion that,if you can pivot the triplet round the central point of the optics path,(eg:the centre of the mirror) and can also pivot the mirror through the same point,in theory you could swivel the triplet, and the mirror to correspond through a very large arc.
Please forgive the scribble:

In theory at least, this would give major movement, although the mirror would need to be adjusted along with the triplet.

Cheers P ph34r.gif
(if I could find a way to gear the mirror to move at 50% of the movement of the triplet, the whole process could be motorised!!! cool.gif )

I like it, Punisher I would still like to layout your projector in Solid works and make a kit out of it if you are willing? (with the Pun15her Logo cut into the sides)

Same Material Used in my HassMan for the front curve.

You could use his name, but the logo would be a copyright infringement...Marvel is militant about their copyright materials.

Sorry, dont mean to be a wet blanket...Its just that the copyright laws are moving towards being obscene and I dont want anyone to get in trouble. ph34r.gif

hey punisher I was putting my top fresnel at a 10 degree angle, and my lens at a 10 degree angle, but I end up getting a trapizod on the screen, any idea why?

I think that would be awesome Joe,please do.
Any help I can give you, just let me know!! biggrin.gif

At the end of the day, though,I would be happy to have the design out there in any form. biggrin.gif

This is an example of how Marvel works...

"The Emperor is not as forgiving as I am."

Since they forged bonds with the movie companies, they have pooled resources and become quite the force to be reckoned with.

Joe: Pun style projector cases... That would be awesome.

Pun: I like the pico idea. A 2:1 gearing for the projection lens vs mirror should be easy enough to make, though it would require some precision to make. The mechanism would be similar in concept to the one that allows a clock's hands to be driven at different speeds, though a simple 2:1 that only needs to voce a relatively small arc should be good.

MB54: I'll post a solution in your PLOG.

To be perfectly honest,I havn't quite been able to suss that one out yet!!
Raise the angle more and it will dissapear eventually! Also the angle of the mirror can accentuate the trapezoid shape, too,if you tilt the mirror, the shape lessens.
I am going to go half fresnel adjustment, and half by a slanted screen. That way I hope to keep reasonable focus across the screen too!!

Im sorry. I was going to say something earlier when it was mentioned, but I didnt want to seem like a party pooper. If the design is built and sold with nods from admins, then the LL group would probably assume some of the liability as well.
sad.gif
BUT! They could still sell it with your name and I really do think people should have a chance to get one. It is such a good looking design.

Like I said, Im sorry, but I had these visions of them making your life a living hell, maybe even freezing LL's assetts, and I hate seeing my friends get hurt, so I figured I had better speak up.

Come to think of it, my avatar is probably a CI too... ph34r.gif

Amazing looking projector Punisher, well done and thanks for your very informative plog.

Can I ask as to where you sourced the tube which the triplet sits in, I'm not having much luck finding anything the right size apart from cans of food which I'm not too keen on. Thanks.

Hi,my4keys82.

Thanks for the kind words,I accumulated loads of stuff when trying out focus solutions, the tubes I eventually used were from a big b&q.They were in the plumbing section.Just 2 short lengths of black plastic tubing (about 10cm).one runs inside the other.Took a bit of sanding to get them to run smoothly, though!!
Hope this helps! biggrin.gif

I've got one on my pj, and the jury is still out on it's effectiveness. I haven't had a chance to play with it for long enough yet. One of the things that is making it hard is that I don't have a lock for my triplet slide yet, it is on rails. I'm finding it very difficult to play with the tilt without disrupting the slide mechanism.

Pun, I don't think that tilt alone will create a shift in the position of the projected image, or keystone correct.

This is what I was thinking about,(sorry for the scribble). The triplet would be on a bar, that would pivot about the centre point of the lightpath at the mirror, that way,the mirror could be used to redirect the lightpath to follow the movement of the triplet, all moving in the same plane!!!?????

I've been mosying through this post and others for weeks now and am still lost on the picture quality of this design. What angle roughly is your top fresnal set at and does this correct your keystoning. also does your picture focus from top to bottom. I have an all thread frame built and am thinking of builing the super pivot for the mirror and triplet tomorrow. hard to tell but is your lcd facing the lamp or the triplet, think i messed up and designed my frames to accomodate the lcd fasing the the lamp and the boards sticking up.
Haas_man
I was looking into a pivot on the mirror for my next box, whenever that happens. I have a simular design sketched up. The problem is that the mirror and obj lens need to move at different rates. If the mirror is tipped back 10 deg. , then the obj needs to be be raised by 20 degrees. I have sketched up a design that will compensate for the correction, but it's on paper not CAD. My design also corrects for the keystone angle too. I guess I'm not going to supprise anyone now!

edit: I see that your mirror and lens were not connected. I was trying to do it in one motion. tip the lens up and the mirror and f fres make the correction with simple levers.

Cheers Joe,yup that is correct, lcd aces triplet.I have the board facing up!!The fcc's on the benq are very flexible!! smile.gif
As far as I am aware, you can only achieve complete focus, when the triplet and screen are perpendicular to each other. So no,no even focus for me,however, this is 100% not noticeable when watching a movie, subtitles etc look clear as a bell!
So I shall be making a slightly slanted screen,maybe 5 degrees,the rest by keystone,no probs!! biggrin.gif

No sweat,SW!I presumed you had misseed the (crap)diagram!! biggrin.gif
pun15her
Ok,looks complicated,but I think something like this.....

...might work.It would need to be pretty much slop free, maybe using ballraces,at all the moving joints??
Looking at it, it resembles a cantilever suspension setup!
Haas_man
Yes, thats where I was going with my design. Now, add a link hanging from the bottom to adjust the front fres for keystone adj. at 1/1 with the obj carrier. I like the addition of the screw, That didn't cross my mind.

I wanted to curve the top of the front back and mount a piece of thin panel to the obj carrier and drag it up and down to cover the hole. They would overlap on the top and bottom. Focus isn't a problem using the tubular focus tube.
pun15her
Like the keystone adjustment idea,Haas.
I know what you mean about the overlapping cover idea, but I thought about doing something low profile and sexy!!!!!!
Maybe something like the half exposed the rear lights of an enzo????

It would take a bit of work, but I think it is do-able,and would look very groovy!! smile.gif
