Hey everyone first and foremost thanks for the great site, you guys are amazing, i spend what little free time at work i have surfing the site. Onto my question, is there any way i can purchase one of these from here? Me and my wife are both in the military, so the little free time we have is spent with each other, giving me no real time to get one of these built. I would just out right buy a projector, but i dont get paid enough smile.gif so thats out of the question, any help would be greatful, and ill continue to check up on everyone, thanks for everything.

If you buy the guide, you will have access to the trading post forum, where people quite often sell their pre-built projectors. You can also see where to get pre-built housings and other parts pre-assembled to save you time.

If you don't have much free time, I wouldn't advise getting into these forums.

I've lurked through them for days and days. There's so much great information in the forums. Great people. Great ideas (well some are great).

If you are a hobbiest of any sort, you will take something away from this community.

Generally discussions include:

optics
wood working (hand and CNC)
metal working
computer hardware
pimped out living room sets.

it was worth the $20 IMHO

If you don't have much free time I would not advise building your own projector. It does require quite a bit of time and effort to build. You are looking at approximately $400 - $650. This is not trivial money for a project that you may not have time to complete.

dont discourage them from building it - - it can be done in a weekend, and things can be bought as you go along to get the money - it will take time, but you can build it in stages

Yorick,

Where are you stationed? I would be concerned about it getting trashed when you PCS.

Huh!?...It can be done in a weekend...it will take time...you can build it in stages?

Dude, ya gotta make up your mind.

I know of very few people here who was able to 1) buy all of their components, 2) design their PJ, 3) build their PJ, and 4) tweak their PJ in a weakend. Some of these PLOGs go on for months. Heck, my PJ is approximately 2 or 3 months in the making if you start the clock when I paid for access to the forums. I bet ya I spent hundreds of hours reading, planning, and working on this.

This is not a trivial project to get into. And it is not a trivial amount of money to invest. Don't get me wrong, it is fun and worth the money and time. But that does mean you need both money and time. If you are short on one or the other, the chances of completing the project drop dramatically. If you are short on both, I would seriously advise against starting the project.
