I don't have spares. Anybody know an online source? I suppose I could get a $30 one from radio shack, but I'd rather get a $10 one online.

I purchased mine from bladerunner for $16.

If you're really in a pinch, an AT computer supply pumps out 12vdc on the yellow wires that normally plug into disk drives. (black are ground, red are 5vdc)
If you take it out of its housing, remove the fan, and remove all the extra wires, they make a pretty cool looking circuit board.
Computer repair shops probably have a pile of them they let go cheap.

Just don't touch one of those fat caps, Ouch!
I have popped one before in a faulty powersupply and it sounded like a handgun went off on the tech bench. They pack a punch. Enough to stop or start your heart. Be careful with these exposed.

no old cell phone ac chargers laying around?

Gosh... I have a SHOE box STUFFED with old adapters... ranging from 3vdc to 24vdc.
I got lucky and dug up a 2.5 amp 12v one I used for my Projector.
You must live in a SMALL Town if nobody has any adapters. Evil*Mart, er... Wal*Mart has slews of them.
Just about ANY store that sells electronic gadgets have them. I don't think you're looking hard enough.

yeah, I went to Walmart (serves 2 cities, is why it's here.), but nothing suitable. Would have had to buy a phone or something to use it with. For $16 I could get EIGHT bags of potatoe chips, I'll just ask around.
I'm cheap... Well-out of money is more like it. Curse me and that LCD panel.

// spit topic - CHEAP.
for $15.93 you could have 27, 10lb bags of potatoes. (is that 270lbs?!)
I got me my 10 lb bag of potatoes last night for $0.59.
NOW who's cheap?

Cheap....go to Goodwill, the Salvation army store or church thrift shop. They usually have a bin of loose junk for $1.

i got $2.00 of gas at the gas station yesterday.
Also got some potatoes, paid with change. I live in idaho and potatoes were 98 cents for just 5 pounds...
-So I am forced to be cheaper because Idaho sucks.
Goodwill- Excellent. I will go there.

hey, im no genious, and i dont really knw what im doing, but this worked for me...
my lcd panel has 12vdc going into it, so i just split the line and used that to power both my lcd and the fan.
dont blame me if this doesn't work.
my projecters been running for about 2 weeks straight, with no complaints.

I was thinking of using the backlight power, if they put out 12vdc, which I think they might.

may be something like this could work....
input is 110v and output is 12.6 volts, most dc fans have a rating of 11 volt to 13 volt (or something like that)

The 12.6V output from that transformer is AC, so it won't work by itself. You are better off with a wall wart or an open frame power supply.

I bought a dremel at Harbor Freight yesterday for $9.99. that came with a 60 piece accessory kit. The thing is junk, and looks and feels like a childs toy, (might be useful if you need it for very small things...) but the adapter for the dremel is 120volts input---12VDC output 500ma so for $9.99 I'm just going to use this for my 2 Evercool fans... here's the link... I have a store locally, if you don't, just order from the website...

Thanks Deathray, your input probably saved me from frying my new evercools...\
I didn't realise that the transformer from radioshack was just that "a transformer" and not an adapter so the output was goin to be AC.
After reading your post I went through my collection of adapters that I have collected over the years(thanks to all those free cell phone deals after 1 year contracts) I found one with 12v and 1 amp, so when my evercools come in I will be all set.

I did the same thing. Wondered why the multimeter wasn't reading anything. Got a strange pulsing sensation out of the wires too... Slowly it dawned on me.
Anyway, stop posting here and answer my other post because I'm desperate.

I currenlty have 2 ac fans in my projector but the noise is just to much, so I ordered some evercools. I have a few power supplies just sitting around, but I don't feel all that safe leaving them opened and using them as the power source for the fans. But I think I will find the smallest one and strip it, to see if that would be the best option.

since i have a lot of power supplies around here, i found a good one that came from old dlink wireless router. it is input 100-120v and output is +5.0v=2.5a.
will it works for my 2 pcacs ?

Mar 20 2005, 05:17 PM
Probably not. At that voltage the fan might not even spin. I would use a minimum of 7 volts, but only if you don't need to push much air and you are concerned about fan noise issues. 12V is probably best for our application.
