ok, i got everything up and running. fired everything up and i have a extremely dark image. I started double checking all my dimensions, and re-aligning my fresnels to verify everything is correct. with everything in the box im getting hardly any light past the LCD. i removed the LCD panel and im able to get the light focusing on the triplet lens. the image is projecting a nice bright image of the fresnels on the screen and everything seems to be working fairly well. i have a slight amount of spillage but not a terrible amount. i reinstall the LCD and its as if the LCD is blocking most of the light. i can no longer notice any of the focused light or spillage on the triplet. i can hold my hand where the light path should be and theres just no light. Did i forget to remove some sort of filter or screen on my LCD that may be blocking the light. Im running the Samsung 512N.
thanks in advance

From the looks of your Plog I don't think you stripped your monitor all the way. It looks white.
Check out this teardown - you missed a step

Well what can be said? Check the fresnels? You already did that. Unless perhaps you got the units confused. Maybe your bulb is faulty, or your lcd. Maybe you have the fresnels pointed the wrong way, or maybe you have the collector fresnel in place of the collinator fresnel, and vice versa.

I noticed this the other day but I thought someone else would mention it :-p
You need to take those plastic sheets off the LCD. They were part of the backlight. Don't go peeling anything off the LCD itself, but take off the sheets that were just wedged between the backlight and the LCD. The only thing that should be there is the thin glass LCD panel.

did you not take the backlight off?

yeah .... I have a 512N and my lcd passes alot of light .....
Here are my results ...
http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?s...opic=3820&st=40You do need to remove the white film that is between the LCD and backlight .... on the 512N, all you should see is the thin LCD panel itself ....Nothing else ...

the white film wasnt there for the usage, i only left it on in those pics to protect the lcd while i was still building it. i reverified the proper fresnel is in each location. and each fresnel is facing correctly towards the LCD. its like the LCD is acting as a huge pair of sunglasses.

yep, that was it. i still had light getting blocked. when i stripped the LCD i was very hesitant to remove anything, for fear of it being attached to something expensive. i just stupidly assumed that those portions were part of the LCD. either way, its down to just the LCD now and its up and running now and ready for tweaking.
Big Thanks Guys!!

ok, ultra mega huge improvement. to say the least. i've been playing with it so far this evening and have got a fairly nice image with progressive scan DVD thru the N6. its darker than i had hoped, but i have made some adjustments to help with that. on regular tv it looks horrible, but thats also comparing the quality to the prgressive dvd. but i do notice that the tv is signiffigantly darker than the dvd, almost unwatchable on darker scenes. but ive still got some adjustments to make. but so far the test are going good.

A lot of brightness problems are due to improper alignment. With the PJ on, take a look at the light pattern at the tripplet. Most of the oval shaped bright spot should be hitting the tripplet dead center. If any of the light is hitting above or below you might need to adjust your front fresnel up or down, or move the tripplet up or down. There is usually a bit of light hitting on both sides, but there isn't anything you can really do about that.

from what i can tell, most of my spillage is horizontal. im gonna do some more test runs and put some paper infront of the triplet to determine the exact amount. plus after doing a little probing around on teh forums, it seems bulb adjustment may help tremendously..... off the to pj.......
