Full Version: Quick question about mounting rail idea

curious if anyone sees any issues with the attached diagram of a mounting bracket i'm planning on doing. the assumption is 2.5mm per 'sliver' of plastic (acrylic/xl10). i'm thinking of using leftover xl10 for as much of it as i can, and regular acrylic for whatever else i need further away from the lamp. reason for this 'design' is that i'm limited in my available tools for precision cutting...

the 'slivers' would be painted black so as to not let any light through the frame itself. using a bolt to hold it together because i didn't want to mess with the glue adding to the width/measurements.

as for keystoning, i don't care about it in my design as clarity is paramount to me. this will mostly see 4:3 use, and i'm not willing to compromise any onscreen detail for keystoning, plus pj placement/room isn't an issue in my setup.

ALSO, i'm thinking of putting the tempered glass about 2.5" from the collector fresnel, anyone know if this is optimal/sufficient/insufficient? i'm looking at 3x90mm fans (maybe going at 5v instead of 12) sucking air out from the top, plus 2 of those wide/quiet/adjustable ones that we seem to like on here (forget their names at the moment) for the lamp area (tempered will be sealed off from the rest of the design.

thanks.

Kind of an interesting idea with the stacked lexan/acrylic.
Just wondering how you are planning to drill through all the layers to get the bolt in place.
I broke several pieces of lexan trying to drill them with starting out with too big of a drill bit.

Why use the Lexan to mount the fresnels instead of wood or aluminum c channel. Just seems like more work.

Al_E: i think its drillable as long as a small bit is used and very light pressure. but i guess i won't really know till i try smile.gif

mantis: my main issue was that i didn't have access to precision cutting tools. i would have loved to be able to just cut the perfect channels into a 2x4, maybe i'll still try that, but am leary with doing that with a circular saw smile.gif

going to a hardware store today, maybe somethign else will convince me to abandon this... i was thinking of c-channels as well, but didn't like my options as to what was available...maybe i'll look again.

thanks for the input.
