Has anyone tried the lastest, greatest version of the X2VGA? I'm trying to decide between it and the N6. I want the best picture quality for games, but also for watching DVD's with my xbox. What's the best option?

I dont think the n6 supports 720 or 1080, the x2vga is supposed to. If you have a modded xbox you can watch dvd's in 720 with filters and stuff using XBMC and it should look better than n6, but thats just my opinion.

i have this adapter and have been using it with my 17 inch lcd for a while. Image is great. I recently purchased a 7inch Innovatek VGA LCD ( a rebagged Lilliput VGA Screen) for my projector project. Using this screen and the adapter its possible to get 480P resolutions. The 480P image was amazing (movies and games) - cant wait to project it. However if I were to buy another VGA adapter, I might consider the VD-Z3 adapter - as it supports any device with comp. out. However the x2vga+ is perfect for HD resolutions on your xbox.

How well does it work hooking up a DVD player to it?
I ordered the new X2vga and Iam wondering how well it will work like this.
I read their online manual and they say it works with Progressive scan DVD players.

Will I have to do anything special or can i just plug the DVD player in and go.

The new X2VGA2 transcoder is supposed to be phenominal. It is supposed to fix darkness (dark crush) issues with PC monitors. I ordered one, and it should be in this week.

When I get it, I will do a side by side comparison between the X2VGA2, Vdigi VD-Z3, homemade transcoder, and the Viewsonic N6.

A transcoder will give you the best quality image bar none. However, it will only output the following 3 resolutions: 640x480, 1280x720, 1920x1080. It is up to your monitor to do the scaling. Simjedi apparently has not had good luck with the quality of monitor scaling. I on the other hand have seen nothing but perfect scaling on every monitor I have tried. What LCD panel are you using?

Also, if your Xbox is not modded you can play games just fine, but the transcoder will not work with DVDs. This is because progressive scan on the stock Xbox is disabled.

If this is a problem, I still wouldn't reccomend the N6....the quality downright sucks.
An alternative is the VGA2TV2WAY. You can find them for around $170, and rlwoodjr here on the forums seems to like it.

Or if you don't mind the limitations of 480i input, you can get a Avermedia TVbox9.

Although the quality of monitor scaling has improved since LCD's were first released, they are still lacking when not run in their native modes. Many times one monitors scaling can be good while anothers is terrible... it's a kind of luck of the draw. For example, my father has a 19' monitor that he runs at 1024x768 'cause the icons are all bigger (loosing some of his youthful sight I suppose), I show him how changing the resolution to 1280x1024 makes everything look so much sharper and clearer... he says " I can't see the difference"... there ya have it... what it all boils down to... "can you see the difference?"

If you are a perfectionist looking for the best possible image, SIMJEDI's solution is the one... however using only a transcoder can be a cheaper alternative if you find the "you can't see the difference".

I've just got the x2vga2 (as well as the older one), the pic's more stable and does seem brighter and a bit sharper. It has the advantage of two component inputs as well as a vga input (handy as I've two softmodded xboxes running 720p on the same monitor). Certainly satisfied.

I can't believe nobody here has tried to hook up a DVD player to the new X2vga. It has two component inputs I would think it would work well to have a game system and a DVD player hooked up to it. If anybody has tried this how well does it work? Also what type of DVD player have you tried?

Well, component out on the xbox DVD progressive scan player is flawless, which is the same as a commercial prog scan dvd player!

Also, the progressive output on XBMC (which has lots of ffdshow filters you can apply as well) is fantastic.

Don't get me wrong, the image quality perfect as expected, it just doesn't offer anything new as advertized.
At least with Vdigi's transcoder, you can adjust the brightness to somewhat compensate. The X2VGA2 has no such feature.....I don't see what's so new and improved.

Unless your DVD player outputs 480P or higher, you don't get picture through the x2vga2. I tried a progressive scan cheapo dvd player and it didn't work. I also tried a HD cable box through it and thought the picture looked good, better than my happauge tv card, but I was having problems with getting a 16x9 format out of my hd box. So, with out really playing with it too much I took that out of the loop. I now just play xbox through it. I have played with the dip switches some, one is too dark and the other is bright, but some parts are washed out. I just got a new hockey game and am interested to see what the ice will look like through it. I don't know if this helps, but that is my experience - so far.

just recieved the x2vga today and hooked it up to my Xbox 360. It is supposed to run in 720p, i went to the display settings and the transcoder automatically changed the display to 720p and widescreen, perfect, but it isn't displaying in widescreen. The image looks stretched. Before i got the transcoder i was using a vga xbox 360 cable to run from my projector into my 360 and most games would play in widescreen 720p so i know my monitor can do it. For some reason it plays everything in fullscreen. Has anyone experienced this?

The Xbox 360 will output different resolutions depending on what video out cable you are using with it.
When you were using the VGA cable, the Xbox 360 was outputting a 4:3 resolution (like 1024x768), and adding black bars at the top and bottom. Now that you are using a component out cable with the 360, it is outputting a 16:9 resolution when you try 720P. It looks like your monitor doesn't support 16:9 resolutions.

No, neither the X2VGA nor the VD-Z3 do any scaling at all... they are transcoders, mearly converting component to VGA. If you want scaling, you need to buy a scaler... like the N6...

I've been running mine for a month or two now. It works fine with the DVD player I have, once it is set to 480P. What doesn't work is whatever there feature is about displaying 480i, suppose to zoom it in and scroll or something the website says. THis works fine on a CRT monitor, but not on my lcd panel at least. So it makes playing PS2 pretty annoying through it on the projector, only the game is sent in 480p, all the menus are 480i and won't display.
