hey guys,

I finally finished my projector and when i went to fire it up, all i could see was a white screen! i have a benq 567 with an N6 and have tried many combinations with no success. I've connected my lcd directly to my pc and nothing would come up, the lcd through the N6 and then to the pc and the result didnt change. Also, I connecting my dvd player and cable tv to the N6 and that to the lcd and nothing could be seen. I know that my N6 works properly because I connected it to my pc monitor and it functions. The power light on the lcd is on but if i press any of the buttons on the lcd panel (ie, brightness/etc) none of the features show up on the screen either. Does anyone have any other ideas? I have attached a picture of the front section of my box.....anyone think there might be a problem with the grounding? Thanks in advance everyone...

Make sure your N6 is set to the native resolution of your LCD panel and try it at 60hz, if it's set higher.

You'll probably need to hook it back up to your computer monitor in order to make these changes.

the native resolution issue would still display in image ....

do you get the default screen when your monitor isnt plugged into anything ....

For example when I dont have my monitor plugged into anything, I get this box on the screen that tells me to check my source ... it also says "No signal" ......

See if you can get to this point .... if all you get is a white screen when nothing plugged up, then I would start suggesting monitor failure ...

Also, are you sure your getting power to the monitor ..... My projector will display a white image if my monitor is off .... this is because my LCD screen is semi transparent, and light passes through it when its off .....

Yes it sounds like the actual panel isn't getting power. Is there any state change at all when you power up the LCD? Flickering? Goes black to white? Anything?

If not it probably is a problem with the grounds and may not be a big deal...
alchemy
Thanks for the responses guys....i actually dont get ANY messages like "no signal" or anything...the wall is just plain white. i do think im getting power to the monitor because the blue power light on my panel comes on when i press it, and goes off if i press it a second time, and so forth...the only time "anything" can be seen on the wall is when i press the power button on the lcd panel....it flickers for a split second and then goes to white again.....anything else? thanks again

well guys, i just installed the original metal framing that held and grounded all the boards on the lcd and nothing showed up still....anything else i should look for before considering the lcd dead? thanks again.

Accessing the OSD (On Screen Display) of the LCD usually does not require
any video input source. Remove all power for 10-20 seconds and try again.

Reseat all of your FFCs (unclamp, remove, insert, clamp again). When you put the metal frame back on did you remove all of your added grounds?
alchemy
yes brain, i did remove all my added grounds and simply screwed the boards back in with the original screws too.....

for an update, i added the original backlight so i could "see" what was showing on the lcd....and here is what comes up on the lcd now....its got some wierd vertical lines, but still does not let me use or see the OSD and still no picture obviously...thanks again guys...

Looks like a ffc is either loose or broken
alchemy
yeah someone told me to check the ffc's and im pretty sure their seated properly....anyone know anything about the specs of the ffc's for this benq model, or atleast know how to figure it out these specs? im asking because www.digikey.com sells ffc's, but i need to know the exact specs to purchase the right ones obviously. thanks again for you help guys.

Doesnt look good ....

Where do you live ..... Is it cold there ... have you noticed a build up of static discharge?? ...... Its possible that a ESD shock ruined an EEPROM or others Logic Device .....

Double check all the FFC's as suggested but, keep in mind that something could be bad ......

I suggest pulling the FFC and reseting them. Some times what looks to be good isn't, and just inserting them fixes the problem. All vertical lines means that the LCS isn't getting any row signals.
alchemy
Thanks to everyone who helped...i cleaned, unplugged, and replugged the ffc's into their respective slots multiple times, but the problem is still present sad.gif ....i guess something is damaged and its time for a new lcd. Please let me know if any of you have any other troubleshooting ideas for me. Thanks again guys.

Actually the grounds weren't needed except for possibly between the power supply and A/D controller. So I doubt that's it. You've tried reseating the FFC's between your LCD and controller so I doubt that's it. You stated it was all white and now it's current condition leads me to believe an intermittent problem like a bad connection. I noticed in your first picture that the PCB for the LCD was loosely mounted. Have you checked the connections between LCD and the horizontal board that holds the ASIC?

same thing happened to my benq591. after 5hours "WTFs", i noticed the lcd vga cable was not all the way in smile.gif also the lcd will shutdown in 3sec if not connected to a source (that is on) that's why i didn't see that "no signal" or benq logo. good luck w/your lcd!

btw, that evercool fan is louder than my 4fan pc case sad.gif

This is exactly how my LCD looked when it "died". sad.gif
