1704FP 17" DVI LCD $259

I bought 2 of these during christmmas, one for my wife to use and the other as a secondary monitor until I start building my projector. The picture on these are wonderful biggrin.gif

hey

that LCD has 25 ms response

would that be good enough for movies and xbox

thanks

RawB8,

I got one of these and was concerned about the 25ms being too slow but the 1000:1 contrast was too good to pass up. It could be noticable when the image gets blown up, but I don't notice any blur playing shooters on my 1704 as it is.

can anyone please tell us the exact screen dimensions of this monitor? I'd like to know if I can use the standard fresenls with the 1704fp.
thanks

Hypermicro has the Dell 1702fp for 219.00 plus shipping. Brain has this one and so do I. It's contrast ratio is around 800:1 according to pcworld. See Brains posts about it.

small ffc issue that's easily fixed with a cable from lumenlab.
It has a 90 day warranty. warranties aren't any good anyway if you take your lcd apart.
Mine arrived with zero dead pixels. woot.
16ms

25ms is to slow. In gaming I experienced very slight ghosting with my 16ms Dell so 25ms would be a lot worse.

As far as using the standard lens you can't unless you use a different type of freshnel. Unless you want the corners cut off. I'm hoping lumenlab will get the pro lens in before I start building my pj.

Here's the article on the dell 1702fp contrast.

actually i want to use the pro fresnels with the standard lens.
big resolution, short throw. or at least, that's the plan.

Just got my 15" projector working and am impressed but the 17" would be a great one to build also. I guess Brain is still having problems with the fresnals? I seem to remember someone in one of the threads mentioning using fresnals from www.diyprojectorcompany.com with their 17" monitor and lumanlab triplet and getting good results. Might want to check it out if you are eager to build.

Brain is spending alot of time and energy trying to get thease new fresnles made perfect. I would wait and get his.

Do any of you know of a lens that could handle this 17"r? No dim corners, no poorly focused corners?

I have a 17 inch lcd and I'm going to wait for brain to get the lens and freshnels matched up. If your in no hurry. wink.gif wait for them.
Brain has been working with the manufacturers in getting the lens corrected. He had some pro lenses for sale once but they didn't produce a high quality picture so he took them off of the store's website. He now has the new ones in his posession to see if the're going to produce the high quality picture he and I would love to have.
There are ways around the 17 inch lens by using a 15 inch lens but you'll have to buy a different type of freshnel and it is pretty tough to get it just right. Also the box may have to be quite a bit bigger. The're is a post in the forum dealing with this type of setup. Do a search and see if you can locate it. I think Dieytor (spelling may not be just right) from spain
http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5230&hl= is the forum.
is using a completely different lens and freshnels but the pj box is really quite large but produces an excellent picture. CS

what fps were you playing? on pc? have you witnessed ghosting before? I know that a bunch of people are interested in this monitor but the response time has us scared away? have you played ut2k4, or another fast passed first person shooter go through and move the mouse back and forth quickly and you should see if there are any problems. if you dont see it small chances are it wont be there when it is projected, I have played a nec monitor with 25ms that was very reasonable so it is possible but depends on the monitor cause others with the same response time look like crap.
TheAxeMaster
I'm staring at the Dell 19" right now (at work) and it is 25ms, and I get ghosting when dragging or fast-scrolling (especially with areas change from black to white).
