Hi Jdmlight,
thanx for the info, Maybe I should look to build the projector around lower quality 7" screen with the intent of upgrading the screen in the future.
Does any one know what 7" screens are readily available at a half decent resolution?
I am happy to use e-bay to source the screen.
Can I use a pro lens with the 7" screen and the proposed throw distance with my intended final image size?
I am thinking of working with a mini- haas style projector, with seperate ballast and external extractors, to reduce noise levels. Is this the best way forward?

Here is a link to details of my plasma.
http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/products/archive...4HDE/index.htmlThe resolution is 1280 x 768 and I wonder if using a 7" panel such as the Sanyo 1920 x 1080, when it becomes available, would yield a better result given that the image will be over double the size of the 50" plasma.

yes but not as bright as usual, but that plazma only accepts input up to XGA, 1024x768 which is a standard HD.

Builder Brad, please start a new topic on your projector and PM me the link. I feel like I'm talking over people. Also, then you're more likely to get responses from others.

Ok, I desided to jump into a 7" for the members here who want to just have a simple 7" projector, it took me about 1/2 Hour at the Plastic Wholesale place, bought 1/4" Black Plexi (Cut to my Specs. I worked out in Acadd) I will post the pics and show the progress as I go. ok for the Projector Box Parts..
What resolution is your low res lcd?
I have a few laying around and would like to know if they would be worth messing with.
Thanks

Just about all of the small low res panels are good enough for a 60" diagonal image with
not much of a problem with viewing movies and TV. Text will suffer, tho.

Here's a stupid question for you,
Can you see any light through that box?
Or is color solid enough to block all light?

Ok, and another quick question about your light engine. I ripped a halogen lamp holder from an OHP, but I cant tell if the small square holder itself regulates the voltage from 120 to 86V or if there is something else in-line that does it. The holder looks almost exactly the same as yours, so if yours regulates it, mine probably does too. So, I couldn't tell from your description, but does the holder regulate it, or do you have a resistor wired in?

They use a diod block that can be had at many OHP parts stores.

Do you mean diode block? And if so, from what I know about electronics, that means that I CANNOT run the 120V straight into the bulb. I just thought I remembered someone doing that and overpowering the bulb to get a little more light out of it, although im sure that would decrease the life span of the bulb greatly. I think I may just buy a 120V bulb and use the existing holder that I have to save myself some space and wiring in the projector. Plus apparently a 120V ENH bulb can output 15,000 lumens. The bulb I have now (ENX 86V) cant be outputting more than 4000 lumens, so it would be a big improvement.

Well I guess it was a stupid question.

hey joe nice build. I got a few questions: how was heat management in the plastic? Would this plastic fare well against a 250w mh? Would you be able to cnc a mini haas of this plastic? im very interested if you could. If not ill try my local plastics store.

Very nice build joe - I like how the design can be upgraded to newer panels that offer higher resolutions! It inspires me to build one too. I have one question though - why did you use foam filters? Doesn't that really limit airflow? Had you considered panty hose as an alternative to keeping the dust down? - things that men hate shopping for I know. Not that I am criticizing - I'm just curious.
Thanks for a good diagram and all the pictures!

BTW, I might have missed it, but what did you use to cut the acrylic? Dremel? Does acrylic wad up when you cut it like plastic does? Is it possible to round out the edges without too much trouble or is that a pain in the a$$?

Worked on the light portion of the projector.. Here is the light installed.
You manage to avoid heat issues with the light catcher that close to a plexiglass box?
